By the grace of Hashem*,

Greetings and blessings,

It is quite clear that my purpose is not to complain about the past and to impose suffering upon anyone. What I am saying concerns the future, and I mean here to point to what one can observe with one's eyes of flesh — namely, the fact that one of the surest channels and receptacles for earning one's material livelihood is to devote oneself to earning one's spiritual livelihood. Moreover, material sustenance is provided by Hashem*, as we say in the grace after meals, which is instituted by the Torah*: "He nourishes the entire world through His goodness, with grace, kindness, and mercy." For all that, a person must forge receptacles along natural paths. This is not the case, however, for spiritual sustenance, which is entirely delivered to man, for "all is in the hand of Hashem*, except the fear of Hashem*," and it is said: "See, I have placed before you," without further specification. This is not the case for: "and you shall choose," which depends on man, even though he receives, for this, the help of Hashem*, for it is said that: "he who desires to purify himself, he is aided." May Hashem* grant that you convey to me very soon good news of a fundamental upsurge in this matter.

Moreover, we are approaching propitious days — the date of 19 Kislev*, victory of the light of Chassidus* and of Chassidic* ways — the festival of Chanukah* that follows it and brings ever-increasing light, from day to day. Indeed, the Halachah* adopts the opinion of Beis Hillel*, according to which one lights the candles in increasing order, and this applies to "the candle that is a Mitzvah* and the Torah* that is a light," as well as to the luminaire of the Torah* — that is, to Chassidus* and what concerns it. With my blessing to convey good news of all this.

... מובן שאין כוונתי לצעוק על העבר, ולצער מי שהוא, כ"א לעורר על להבא, ולהורות באצבע - הנראה גם לעיני בשר, שאחד הצנור והכלים הכי בטוח לעניני פרנסה גשמיית, היא ההתעסקות בעניני פרנסה ברוחניות, ואדרבה - פרנסה גשמית היא בידי שמים, וכנוסח ברכת המזון שהיא מדאורייתא, הזן את העולם כולו בטובו בחן ובחסד וברחמים [אלא שעל האדם לעשות כלים בטבע], משא"כ פרנסה ברוחניות, כולה ביד האדם, שהרי הכל בידי שמים חוץ מיר"ש, ונאמר ראה נתתי לפניך ותו לא מידי - משא"כ ובחרת, הוא תלוי באדם [אלא שמוסיפין בזה סיוע מלמעלה, הבא לטהר מסייעין אותו].

ובפרט שמתקרבים אנו לימי סגולה יום די"ט כסלו, נצחון אור תורת החסידות ודרכי החסידות, וימי חנוכה הסמוכים אליו, שענינם להוסיף אור מיום ליום, שהרי הלכה כב"ה דמוסיף והולך, בנר מצוה תורה אור ומאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות ועניני'.
