Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6614 — Chinuch
Volume 18 · Letter 111
By the grace of Hashem*,
26 Kislev* 5719,
Brooklyn,
To the Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and carries out a sacred mission, Rav Gershon Mendel (note 1: Rav G. M. Garelik, of Milan. See, on his subject, Letters no. 6632 and 6672) and his wife, the Rebbetzin*, Madame Basya,
Greetings and blessings,
I received with pleasure your letter of 21 Kislev*, in which you briefly describe your accomplishments in Paris and during your journey (note 2: See, on this subject, Letter no. 6584). I am surprised that you do not tell me how your settling in Milan is going. And you describe your journey in only a few words. No doubt you will complete all of this at the next opportunity.
May Hashem* grant that you have great success in every respect, that you make full use of the blessing and the success that Hashem* grants you in this domain. You will do so with joy and enthusiasm, as the days of Chanukah* indicate, during which we are asked to increase the number of candles and the light, from day to day. I await good news of all that has been said. I send you my blessing for considerable success and for conveying good news. The more you detail, the better. With my blessing for a joyous Chanukah*,
I enclose the Chanukah* gelt (note 3: Which is distributed to children during this festival). You will treat it as if it were material money. May Hashem* grant that there be here a whole Shekel*, a holy Shekel*, as the Torah Or* and various other texts explain in the Chassidic* discourses entitled: "You shall raise the head."
