To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, Rav Moshe (note 1: Rav M. Shayevitch, of Chicago. See, on his subject, Letters no. 5691 and 6660) HaKohen,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of this Monday, with what it contained. As you asked me, I enclose a receipt for the Maamad* (note 2: Funds collected for the Rebbe*, who personally oversees their distribution). In fact, we find ourselves during the days of Chanukah*, and the Halachah* follows the opinion of Beis Hillel* according to which one increases the number of candles and the light, from day to day.

This miracle came about through Kohanim* (note 3: The recipient of this letter is a Kohen*), and these lights shall never cease. Consequently, you will convey good news to me, in an ever-increasing manner, multiplying "the candle that is a Mitzvah* and the Torah* that is a light," as well as the luminaire of the Torah*, since this miracle is that of the oil, which alludes to the "secrets of the secrets" of the Torah*, and it concerns all the needs of "the candle of Hashem*, which is the soul of man." With my blessing for a joyous Chanukah* and for conveying good news,

וכיון שנמצאים אנו בימי חנוכה, אשר הלכה כב"ה דמוסיף והולך מיום ליום בנר ואור, והנס הי' בכהנים, והנרות אינם בטלים לעולם, הנה כן יבש"ט ויוסיף, הלוך והוסיף בנר מצוה תורה אור ובמאור שבתורה, שהרי הנס הי' בשמן רזי דרזין דאורייתא, ובכל המצטרך לנר ה' נשמת אדם.
