To my close relative, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Shmuel Menachem Mendel (note 1: Rav Sh. M. M. Schneersohn, of Jerusalem. See, on his subject, Letters no. 6434 and 6864),

Greetings and blessings,

After a particularly long interruption, I have duly received your letter of 24 Adar Rishon* and the one that followed it. You briefly describe the actions that have been undertaken to spread the wellsprings (note 2: Of Chassidus*), in recent weeks. I am surprised by the length of the interval separating your letters, especially when it is a matter of announcing good and joyous news. Now, "there is no good but Torah*" and "there is no joy comparable to being freed from doubt." In this case, are the wellsprings indeed being spread (note 3: It is being freed from doubt in this matter that brings joy)? This is self-evident.

Another point: as time passes, one forgets details and sometimes even entire passages. Of course, I am not moralizing and what I say concerns the future. You will convey all of this to the other Chassidim* who write to me. And may Hashem* grant that there be good, joyous, and detailed news. This will begin during this month of Adar* and one will draw one redemption close to the other (note 4: That of Purim* to that of Pesach*), until Nissan*, when the promise will be fulfilled according to which "it is in Nissan* that they were liberated and in Nissan* that they will be." I send you my blessing to convey good news, as well as my blessing of Mazel Tov*, on the occasion of the birth, which I have just learned of, of your daughter, to whom Hashem* will grant long life. You will educate her, as well as all your other children, to the Torah*, to the marriage canopy, and to good deeds.

נוסף ע"ז עוד נקודה, שבהאריך הזמן נשכחים פרטים ולפעמים ענינים. ומובן שאין כוונתי להטפת מוסר, כ"א בהנוגע להבא, וכן אשר יעורר שאר אנ"ש הכותבים, ג"כ על האמור לעיל.

ויהי רצון שתהיינה הבשורות טובות משמחות וגם מפורטות, ובהתחלה בזה מימי חדש אדר זה, ומסמך גאולה לגאולה לניסן, עדי יקוים היעוד בניסן נגאלו ובניסן עתידים להגאל.
