To the great Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

who has fine conduct, Rav* Yom Tov Lippmann (note 1: Rav* Y. T. L. Lewin, of Brooklyn),

I greet you and bless you,

Through the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav* Dov Ber Pantileyev, I received your most precious gift — a letter of my father and a permission that was granted. Beyond its intrinsic value, this document also establishes that one may write (note 2: In an official document) the notation: "who is called" followed by a Jewish name, which thereby becomes secondary to the secular name (note 3: The Jewish name being then merely a "nickname," while the "proper name" becomes the secular name. One should consult, on this subject, Kuntres* Toras Levi Yitzchak*, addenda, published by Kehos* in 5741, on page 22, which reproduces the text of this letter).

He also told me who you are and I was gratified to learn this. May Hashem grant that for many more years you will use your holy mission, your capacity as Rav* in a shul*, to strengthen Jewish values there and to disseminate them in an ever-increasing manner, with more light and more breadth of spirit. I thank you once again for this gift and send you my blessing for long days and good years. With my respects and my blessing for a joyous Purim*,

וכן נעם לי להודע מהנ"ל בהנוגע לכת"ר בכלל, ויהי רצון אשר עוד רבות בשנים ינצל משרתו בקדש רב בית הכנסת לחזק שם עניני יהדות ולהפיצם באופן דמוסיף והולך מוסיף ואור ומתוך הרחבת הדעת.
