Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6751 — Tzedakah

By the grace of Hashem,

It is surely unnecessary to tell you that there is no cause to be discouraged if, in the past, you made an error in your manner of acting — for example, one of those that were conveyed to me. Such a situation is common in all the conduct of men. And our Sages* say that "one understands the Halachah* only... (note 1: When one has made an error concerning it and has had to rectify it afterward)."

It happens that a person draws a greater lesson from his errors (note 2: Than from what he learns in books) in order to rectify his actions in the future. The merit of the community and that of our masters will therefore come to your aid and accompany you in all that you do. I send you my blessing to give good tidings concerning all the matters about which you write, and for a joyous Purim*, which will imprint its mark on the days that follow.

... בודאי למותר לעוררו, שאין ליפול ברוח באם היתה בעבר איזה שגיאה בהנהגה באיזה ענינים. וכמו אלו שמסרו לי מהנ"ל, כי הרי רגיל הדבר בכל פעולות בני אדם, וכדרז"ל שאין אדם עומד על דבר הלכה אא"כ וכו'. ונוהג שאדם לומד מהשגיאות פי כמה - בהנוגע ליושר הנהגה לעתיד. והרי זכות הרבים וזכות רבותינו נשיאינו מסייעתם ומלוה אותם בפעולותיהם.
