By the grace of Hashem,

To the president, the administrators, and the members of the

congregation Ahavas Tzion*, Newark, New Jersey,

may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I was gratified to receive the invitation to the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the appointment of the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, devotes himself to communal needs, has fine conduct, and is full of zeal — Rav* Shalom Dov Gordon — to the post of Rav* of your shul*. The honor that you show your Rav* gives me great hope that you will continue to support him in the future, and that you will do so in an even greater manner, in his work of developing your shul*, so that it may be a center of Torah*, tefillah*, and tzedakah*, as your circular explains. In this way, the Yiddishkeit* of Torah* will be strengthened throughout your entire city, which will be an application of the "great principle" of the entire Torah*, which proclaims: "You shall love your fellow as yourself."

This is also the meaning of the word "center," designating the deep point relative to all that surrounds it. If there is no surrounding, there can be no center, and if there is no center, there can be no surrounding. It is therefore important that this surrounding be connected to the center and that the center carry within it the three pillars upon which the world stands — Torah*, the service of Hashem which is tefillah*, and acts of kindness — tzedakah*. The entire world is itself in balance upon these three pillars — the great world, but also the small world that constitutes the person, that of each individual.

I wish you and your dear Rav* very many years of collaboration to strengthen your community and, more broadly, your city, around these three pillars. May Hashem grant you all blessing and success, from one stage to the next, materially and spiritually at once. With my respects and my blessing,

מתחילה חופשת הקיץ ,ימי מנוחה ורענון הכוחות ,ואגירת כוחות

חדשים לזמן הבא עלינו ועליכם לטובה.

עליכם לדעת ,ילדים אהובים ,שהכוונה בחופש היא לא הפסקה -

התנתקות -מלימוד ומחינוך .ילד יהודי אסור לו להיות ללא תורה וחינוך

הכשר אפילו יום אחד ,קיץ או חורף .אדרבה :בשים לב לזמן הפנוי הרב שיש

לתלמידים בימי הקיץ הארוכים ,עליכם לנצל זאת לחזרה יותר יסודית של מה

שכבר למדתם ,ולהתכוע להמשך דרככם ,דרך התורה ומצוות.

כך -יחד עם אגירת כוחות גופניים חדשים -תשאבו גם כוחות

רוחניים חדשים ,ששניהם יחד ,ובעיקר ,אכן ,הכוחות הרוחניים ,עושים את

האדם שלם ובריא.

ואתם ,הורים יהודיים ,הנושאים תמיד באחריות של הורים ומחנכים

בעת ובעונה אחת ,עליכם לזכור ,כי במיוחד בחודשי הקיץ ,כמעט כל

האחריות מוטלת עליכם.

הנני שולח לכם את ברכתי ,אשר השם יתברך יתן לכם ,ילדים אהובים,

ולהוריכם ,וכן למלמדים ומחנכים שלכם ,שיחיו ,בריאות בגשמיות

וברוחניות ,עם הרבה נחת ,נחת יהודי ,מתוך מנוחת הגוף ומנוחת הנפש.
