By the grace of Hashem,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav* Eliezer Yitzchak (note 1: Rav* E. I. Miller, of Ashkelon), the Shochet*,

I greet you and bless you,

I received with pleasure your letter of the Sunday of the Sidra*: "A man who will offer, from among you, a sacrifice to Hashem" (note 2: Parshas* Vayikra*), informing me of good tidings in the name of your community and the Talmud Torah* — the reception of a new Sefer Torah* in your shul*. May Hashem grant that the Torah* not depart from the mouths of the members of your community, of their descendants, and of the descendants of their descendants, as it is stated (note 3: Devarim* 32:46-47): "Take all these words to heart, to guard them and to fulfill them, for this is your life and through this you will lengthen your days upon the land, to inherit it."

In accordance with the teaching of our Sages*, great is study that leads to action, on a daily basis. And one knows the ruling of the Rosh*, which has been accepted as Halachah* in the Shulchan Aruch*, chapter 270 — that this mitzvah*, in our days, applies not only to the five books of the Torah* but also to the Mishnah*, the Gemara*, and their commentaries. I send you my respects, my blessing of success in all this, and to give good tidings. Now, there is no good other than Torah* and its mitzvos* — "good for heaven and good for the creatures," producing good fruits. In anticipation of good tidings of everything in general and of each matter in particular,

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מיום הראשון לסדר אדם כי יקריב מכם קרבן לה', מבשר טוב בשם הקהל ובשם התלמוד תורה מקבלת הספר תורה בבית הכנסת שלהם.

ויהי רצון אשר לא תמוש התורה מפי כל חברי בית הכנסת מפי זרעם וזרע זרעם.

ובאופן כמה שנאמר, שימו לבבכם לכל הדברים וגו' לשמור לעשות וגו' כי הוא חייכם ובדבר הזה תאריכו ימים על האדמה וגו' לרשתה.

מתאים להוראת חכמינו ז"ל, גדול תלמוד שמביא לידי מעשה בחיי היום יומים.

וידועים דברי הרא"ש נפסק להלכה בשו"ע סי' ע"ר דהאידנא המצוה היא לא רק בהנוגע לחומשי תורה אלא גם משנה וגמרא ופירושיהן.

בכבוד ובברכה להצלחה בכל האמור ולבשורות טובות ואין טוב אלא תורה ומצותי' טוב לשמים וטוב לבריות טוב העושה פירות - המצפה לבשו"ט בכלל ובפרט.
