Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6775 — Tzedakah
Volume 18 · Letter 272 · To: distingué ‘Hassid qui craint D.ieu
By the grace of Hashem,
17 Adar Sheni* 5719,
Brooklyn,
To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, has fine
conduct and many accomplishments,
Rav* Shlomo (note 1: Rav* S. Perrin, of London. See, concerning him, letters nos. 6242, 6494, 6836, and 6922),
I greet you and bless you,
I received your letter of Rosh Chodesh* Adar Sheni*, with what was enclosed. In the meantime, you must have received my letter, which was written before the receipt of yours. May Hashem grant that the signing of the contract for the Beis Lubavitch* of London, in England (note 2: See, on this subject, letters nos. 6494, 6836, 6935, and 6974), be a good beginning, opening the way to the development of everything concerning Lubavitch, materially and spiritually, down to the finest detail, in a manner conforming to the will of our masters, whose merit protects us. All this will be done with a true breadth that will be manifest in the communal accomplishments as well as in the personal achievements of all those who will take part in this endeavor.
The breadth spoken of here includes within it the act of drawing into this endeavor the greatest possible number — of good friends, of friends in general, and simply of Jews. You know, indeed, the saying of the Alter Rebbe* according to which Chassidus* is not the province of a certain group or a portion of the Jews. It belongs to all, without any exception, which means that ultimately it will indeed reach all Jews, and in the words of the holy epistle of the Baal Shem Tov*, "your wellsprings shall spread" until they reach "the outside." It seems, indeed, that too little has been done to attract friends. Naturally, this does not mean that it should be the same in the future, or that weakness is conceivable in this matter. On the contrary, one must develop all one's energy in this area. And one may even think that this is, at present, easier than before.
As we discussed in recent months (note 3: See, on this subject, letter no. 6541), and this has already been followed by results in certain domains, may Hashem grant that we observe, in everything concerning the Chassidim*, the fulfillment of the verse: "You shall spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south," until attaining "an inheritance without limits." With my blessing of success, as well as to give good and detailed tidings of all this and of what concerns you personally,
M. Schneerson,
