By the grace of Hashem,

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of this Tuesday, in which you speak about your son, may Hashem grant him long life. You tell me that he is becoming too independent. You no doubt know that such a situation is, for one reason or another, common among children who are closely attended to, especially when it is an only son. Indeed, he cannot help but sense that others are affected by his distress. It seems to me that I have already written that in addition to the parents' effort to make such a situation disappear, the intervention of friends proves fruitful and useful — a direct intervention, or better still, an indirect one. Thus, he will observe that they themselves have a way of life based on Torah* and mitzvos*. These may be students in his class, friends at play, or children visiting him at home. The doctor you have consulted will surely advise you in this matter. May Hashem grant that all this meet with success and that your son improve both physically and spiritually.

Although you do not mention it in your letters, I hope that you have a fixed time for the study of the inner dimension of the Torah*, which in our era has been revealed through Chassidus*. It seems to me that we have discussed on various occasions the imperative need in this regard, especially in our era and in this country, particularly when one needs an additional blessing from Hashem, whose effect will be evident in the neshamah* of your son — a limb of the body of his father — in the deep dimension of his neshamah*. And "nothing can withstand the will." With my respects and my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

במענה למכתבו מיום השלישי, בו כותב אודות בנם שליט"א אשר נעשה עצמאי יותר מדי וכו'

ובודאי ידועים לו, שלצערנו מקרה רגיל הוא בילדים שמטפלים בהם (מאיזה סיבה שתהי') ובפרט כשהענין בבן יחיד, שאי אפשר שלא ירגיש אשר מתחשבים עם צערו וכו'

וכמדומה כבר כתבתי, שנוסף על ההשתדלות מצד ההורים למעט תופעה האמורה, מצליח ומועילה הרבה יותר השפעה מחברים, השפעה במישרים ועוד יותר השפעה בעקיפין, כשיראה הנהגתם שהיא ע"פ התורה והמצוה וכו' והשפעה זו אפשרית להיות מחבריו בכתה בה לומד, מחברים עמם משחק או שהוא מבקר בביתם, ובטח גם הרופא שיתייעצו עמו בהנ"ל ייעצם כל הנ"ל, ויהי רצון אשר יצליח גם בכל האמור נוסף על ההצלחה בהטבת בריאות בנם בגשמיות גם הטבה ברוחני[ו]ת.

תקותי, אף שאינו מזכיר עד"ז במכתביו, שיש לו קביעות עתים בלימוד פנימיות התורה שבדור[ו]תנו נתגלתה, בתורת החסידות, שכמדומה איזה פעמים שוחחנו עד"ז בההכרח הכי גדול בזה ובפרט בתקופתנו ובמדינה זו וביחוד כשזקוקים לברכה נוספת מהשי"ת שישפיע בגלוי שבנפש ובפנימית הנפש של ברא כרעא דאבוה. ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.
