To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, devotes himself to

communal needs, has many accomplishments,

I received, in its time, your communication of 16 Adar Rishon*, with what was enclosed. If there is a follow-up to this, please let me know. I thank you in advance. On this occasion, I must express my surprise in observing that there is still no united front (note 2: Of all the religious parties). Just as I take a firm stance against a united front that would be constituted on a permanent basis (note 3: Which would thereby erase the particularities of each of these religious parties), I am equally convinced that a united front of a technical nature (note 4: Constituted solely with a view to elections, in order to obtain the greatest number of votes) is indispensable for the elections. This is even more important in the current situation, when the parties of the left have grown stronger, which is not the case for the religious. It has been observed in the past how difficult it was to constitute such a front. Sufficient preparation well in advance was required, and this preparation was lengthy. One must therefore hurry, especially if one takes into account the general situation, for the parties of the left may yet create surprises in order to win over public opinion. By not acting sufficiently early, one may therefore create a damaging situation that one does not initially imagine.

On this subject, I spoke about all this with Mr. Chaim Moshe Shapiro (note 5: See, concerning him, letter no. 6925), when we met here. I hope he recounted it to you on some occasion. In these days of a month during which one multiplies one's joy, I conclude on a joyful note — a blessing that I send you on the occasion of the birth of your grandson. May Hashem grant that his parents educate him to Torah*, to the chuppah*, and to good deeds. They and you yourself will derive from him much true satisfaction — Chassidic* satisfaction. בעתו קבלתי הפתקא מט"ז אדר א' עם המוסג"ב, ובטח כשיהי' המשך בזה יואיל להודיעני, ות"ח מראש.

בהזדמנות זו מוכרחני להביע תמיהתי שעדין לא נשמע כלום בענין חזית מאוחדת.

וידוע לכ' השקפתי שגם בבחירות הקודמות הי' הכרח בחזית דתית מאוחדת, וכמו שדעתי ברורה בכל התוקף נגד חזית תמידית, כן דעתי ברורה שחזית דתית טכנית מאוחדת - הכרח היא לבחירות, ובתוקף גדול עוד יותר במצב ההוה שנתגברו השמאליים משא"כ בין הדתיים. וכיון שראינו קושי אירגון החזית בעבר שדורש הכנה בעוד מועד, והכנה ארוכה, בודאי שצריך להזדרז בזה, ובפרט בשים לב למצב הכללי שיש לחשוש להפתעות מצד השמאליים לכבוש את דעת הציבור. שלכן העדר העשי' בעוד מועד יוכל להביא היזק בל ישוער מראש.

דרך אגב, דברתי בענין זה עם מר חיים משה שי' שפירא כשנפגשנו פה, ותקותי שסיפר לכ' בהזדמנות המתאימה.

ובימים אלו של החודש שמרבין בו בשמחה אסיים בענין של שמחה וברכה לכ' להולדת הנכד שי', ויהי רצון שההורים שי' יגדלוהו לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים ויהי' להם ולכ' ממנו רב נחת אמתי ונחת חסידותי.
