I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of 26 Adar Sheni*, in which you ask me about the transfer of the body of your brother, may he rest in peace, from the cemetery of Lyon to the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt. In general, it is not my practice to issue halachic* rulings, especially since there are many Rabbanim* in your city who can do so. Nevertheless, I share my opinion with you so as not to delay this project. This initiative is good and even advisable, for the reasons you indicate in your letter and for others as well. But, as I said, you must also consult a Rav* who issues halachic* rulings and who is near you. He will surely be of the same opinion, since such is the view of the poskim*.

You will understand my astonishment at observing that you do not say a single word about your sacred activities intended to disseminate and strengthen Yiddishkeit*, particularly in our era, when this is a personal obligation for each person and the need of the moment. May Hashem grant that the deficiency be only in your letter and not in the concrete action. Likewise, I hope that you maintain the three well-known daily studies — Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*. With my blessing to give good and joyful tidings, as well as for a kosher and joyous Pesach*,

במענה למכתבו מכ"ו אד"ש, בשאלתו אודות העברת אחיו ע"ה מביה"ח אשר בליאן, לאה"ק ת"ו.

בכלל אין עניני פסקי דינים, ובפרט שהרי נמצא בעיר מלאה רבנים מורי הוראה בישראל.

בכ"ז בכדי שלא לעכב הענין כותב הנני גם חוו"ד, אשר נכון הדבר וגם רצוי, ומאותן הטעמים שכותב במכתבו ועוד. אבל ע"פ האמור, ישאל גם דעת רב מורה הוראה בסביבתו, שבודאי גם הוא יאמר כהאמור, שהרי מפורש הדבר בפוסקים.

ומובנת הפליאה, שאין מזכיר דבר בהנוגע לפעולותיו בקדש הפצת היהדות והחזקתה, ובפרט בתקופתנו שחובת גברא הוא וחובת השעה, ויהי רצון שלא יחסר אלא בכתיבה אבל לא בהבפועל.

כן תקותי ששומר על שלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים.
