Igrot Kodesh · Letter 682 — Health

Volume 3 · Letter 288

By the grace of Hashem,
18 Menachem Av 5710,

To the Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rabbi...

Greetings and blessings,

I reply to your letter of 12 Menachem Av.

May Hashem grant that your state of health improves.

You tell me that you have difficulty maintaining your Torah studies because of your physical sufferings. This amounts to saying that one will not take medicine because one is not yet in good health.

Studying the teachings of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, is, indeed, the means of receiving his blessing for good health and material ease. When one declares one's dissatisfaction in these two domains, one must therefore strengthen this study. It is thus that the state of health and the material situation will be satisfactory.

May Hashem grant you to study Torah without being troubled by these two elements. Our Sages say that "one who fulfills the Torah in poverty will come to fulfill it in wealth."

I conclude by granting you my blessing,

Menachem Schneerson
