By the grace of Hashem,

4 Iyar* 5719,

Brooklyn, New York,

To the members of the committee of the association for the

central synagogue of Kiryat Shalom, Tel Aviv,

may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I received your letter of 25 Nissan*, bringing me good tidings — the construction of the central synagogue in your city. May Hashem grant that your enterprise be crowned with success, that you build this small sanctuary, a place of prayer and Torah* study, in which there will be daily classes, which will be more numerous on Shabbos* and the festivals. Our Sages* explain the importance of this, commenting on the verse: "Hashem loves the gates (note 1: Shearim*, of the same etymology as shiurim*, classes) of Tzion*."

May Hashem grant that this synagogue and house of study be a center for everything concerning your city — a center from which our Torah*, Torah* of life, and its mitzvos* emanate, the love and fear of Hashem, the service of Hashem, into the homes of the inhabitants of this city and into their daily conduct. With my blessing for success in all this,

N.B.: You ask me for a letter of recommendation (note 2: Presumably to collect the funds necessary for this construction). It is not the custom to issue such letters in the house of the Rebbe. Nevertheless, it is said (note 3: Tehillim* 119:63): "I am a companion of all who fear You," and I therefore enclose a personal check as a symbolic contribution toward this construction.

ויהי רצון אשר ישמש בית הכנסת ובית המדרש זה, מרכז לכל עניני מחנם הט', מרכז ממנו תתפשט תורתנו תורת חיים ומצותי' אהבת ה' ויראת ה' ועבודת השם בכל בתי התושבים ובאורח חייהם היום יומים.
