To the great Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of

many accomplishments and good conduct,

Rav* Nissan (note 1: Rav* N. Telushkin, of Brooklyn. See, concerning him, letter no. 6774),

I greet you and bless you,

I received, with pleasure, your letter of 5 Iyar*, concerning the examination you administered, together with your colleagues the great Rabbanim*, to whom Hashem will grant long life, to the students of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*, founded and directed by our holy masters, whose merit protects us. I was gratified by the results of this examination, by your assessment of the students' knowledge, and, of course, by the essential point — the lively discussions and responses, establishing, as you observe in your letter, that these students study with love.

May Hashem grant that for many more years you report to me, together with your colleagues the Rabbanim* to whom Hashem will grant long life, tidings of the study of our Torah*, Torah* of life, with love of Hashem and love of the Torah* — concerning, in particular, the students of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*. For the founders of this institution specified that the purpose of their education was to make them into candles to illuminate the darkness of the small world that is man, as well as that of the world in the literal sense, by magnifying and adorning the Torah* through its luminary — which is its inner dimension (note 2: Revealed through Chassidus*).

And just as you have given me great satisfaction, the One Who gives the Torah*, applying His Attribute of "measure for measure" (note 3: Acting in the manner in which one acts toward Him), but in greatly increased proportion, will Himself satiate you with pleasure and satisfaction — from your children and from yourself as well. With my respects, my blessing, and with greetings to your colleagues the Rabbanim*, to whom Hashem will grant long life,

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מה' אייר אודות הבחינה, ביחד עם חבריו הרבנים הרה"ג שליט"א, את תלמידי הישיבה תומכי תמימים, מיסודם ובהנהלתם של כ"ק רבותינו נשיאינו זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ושמחתי לתוצאות הבחינות וחוו"ד בהנוגע להידיעות של התלמידים שי'.

ומובן שביחוד על הנקודה העיקרית, אשר השקו"ט והתשובות מלאות חיים, המורה, כלשונו במכתבו, אשר לומדים באהבה.

ויהי רצון אשר רבות בשנים יבשר כת"ר וכן חבריו הרבנים שליט"א, מלימוד תורתנו תורת חיים מתוך אהבת השם ואהבת התורה, וביחוד בהנוגע לתלמידי ישיבת תומכי תמימים, אשר מיסדי הישיבה קבעו מטרת חינוכם להעשות נרות-להאיר מחשכי עולם קטן (זה האדם) וגם עולם כפשוטו, על ידי שיגדילו תורה אור ויאדירו אותה, מתוך המאור שבתורה, זוהי פנימיות התורה.

וכשם שגרם רוב קורת רוח, הנה, במדתו של נותן התורה שהיא מדה כנגד מדה אלא שכ"פ ככה, ישבע בקורת רוח ונחת רוח מיו"ח שי' וגם מעצמו.
