To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and carries out a

sacred mission, Rav* Yosef (note 1: Rav* M. Flyer, of Chicago. See, concerning him, letter no. 6091),

I greet you and bless you,

After a particularly long interruption, I received your letter of 5 Iyar*, with what was enclosed — that is, the proceeds of the collection you organized for the benefit of Kollel* Chabad* in our Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt. It is surely unnecessary to express gratitude to someone like you. Despite this, I thank you for the pleasure and satisfaction you gave me personally. For in addition to the importance of this endeavor and the mitzvah* it constitutes — causing me immense pleasure — I must also share with you my personal feeling, especially since positive and joyful events are infrequent. This further increases the value of what was accomplished, all the more so since you did it on your own initiative, without it being asked of you.

We have just experienced the month of Nissan* and are in the month of radiance (note 2: Iyar*), when those who illuminated the world were born (note 3: The Patriarchs). And one knows the words of the Arizal* according to which these days, when they are "commemorated," are also "relived." This will strengthen your communal activities and personal accomplishments, within all of Yisrael*. You will attain liberation and deliverance, in order to multiply the radiance in the world — a radiance and reflections of the deeds of our ancestors. For, as the Tanya* states, the members of their body and their actions (note 4: Those of the Patriarchs) were consecrated solely to the Will of Hashem throughout their lives. לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מה' אייר עם המצורף אליו המגבית שערך לטובת כולל חב"ד אשר באה"ק ת"ו.

ואף שלדכוותי' בודאי אין צורך בהבעת תודה וכו' וכו' בכל זה אביע ת"ח על גודל הקורת רוח והנחת רוח שגרם לי בפרטיות, נוסף על גודל הענין והמצוה, אשר אף שנח"ר פרטי שלא בערך הוא לענין המצוה שבדבר, עלי להביע רגשותי בהנוגע לי, ובפרט שדוקא ענינים טובים ומשמחים אין מצוים כ"כ, שזהו עוד מגדיל היוקר כל מאורע כהאמור, ובפרט הנעשה באתערותא של הפועל עצמו מבלי שיעוררוהו עד"ז.

וכיון שבאים אנו מחדש ניסן ונמצאים בחדש זיו, בו נולדו זיותני עולם, וידוע דבר האריז"ל, שכשהימים האלו נזכרים (ה"ה גם) ונעשים, הנה יתוסף בכל ענינים הפרטים והכללים, בתכ"י, חירות וגאולה להרבות זיו בעולם, זיו והארות מעשה אבותינו, וכמובא בתניא, שכל אבריהם ועשיותיהם רק לרצון העליון לבדו כל ימיהם.
