By the grace of Hashem,

28 Iyar* 5719,

Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

After a particularly long interruption, I received your letter from erev* Shabbos*, with what was enclosed (note 1: A contribution to tzedakah*), for which I send you a receipt. You tell me that a student of the Yeshivah* borrowed money from you and has still not repaid it, although the fixed date (note 2: For repayment) has passed. You ask me whether you should offer him this money so that he not be in transgression, or whether he can still repay you. You may do as you suggest by setting a condition. But in accordance with the statements of our Sages*, this condition must meet several criteria.

You also allude to your trust in Hashem. You should consult, on this subject, the Chovos HaLevavos*, the Gate of Trust in Hashem. Regarding Shavuos*, which is approaching, I enclose with this a collection of teachings pertaining to these days. You do not tell me in what manner you have settled in. This no doubt means that all is well. With my blessing to receive the Torah* joyfully and in a profound manner,

לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מעש"ק עם המצורף אליו, ומוסגר פה הקבלה.

ובשאלתו שאחד מבני הישיבה לוה אצלו ממון ועדיין לא פרע לו אף שכבר עבר הזמן שאמר, ושואל אם יתן המעות במתנה בכדי שלא להכשילו, או שאפשר יבוא עוד.

והרי יכול לעשות את האמור בתנאי, וכמה ענינים בתנאי כגון זה ונמצאים בסיפורי חז"ל.

ובקשר עם חג השבועות הבע"ל מוסג"פ תוכן ענינים לימים אלו.
