To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav* Avraham Avich Mordechai (note 1: Rav* A. A. M. Poruch Glickman, of Yerushalayim*. See, concerning him, letter no. 6825),

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter from erev* Shabbos*. The Chassidim* indeed have the custom, during the period of the Omer*, of studying Tractate Sotah* (note 2: Which has the same number of days as the pages of this tractate), according to a teaching I received from my father-in-law, the Rebbe. The Chabad* Chassidim* have done so for many years, and he did not give me the reason for it. However, it can be explained according to what is said in various texts of the Torah* and of Chassidus*, which establish a connection between the period of the Omer* or the offering of the Omer* and the status of the Sotah* who is cleared of all suspicion and can then have children.

At a propitious moment, I will mention your name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, in accordance with what you write. In addition to the studies of the Chumash*, the Tehillim*, and the Tanya*, you surely have a fixed time to study the revealed dimension of the Torah* and its inner dimension, which in our era has been revealed through Chassidus*. Various texts emphasize the necessity of this study, and it can be justified by diverse reasons. With my blessing to give good tidings,

טעם למנהג אנ"ש ללמוד בימי הספירה במס' סוטה. כך שמעתי הוראת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר ושכן נהגו משנים בתוככי אנשי חב"ד, ואף שלא אמר הטעם ע"ז, יש לבאר ע"פ המבואר בכ"מ בנגלה דתורה ובחסידות, על השייכות שבין ימי ספירת העומר או מנחת העומר והענין דסוטה עד אשר ונקתה ונזרעה זרע וכו'.

בעת רצון יזכירוהו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע מתאים לתוכן כתבו.

ובטח נוסף על שמירתו שלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא, יש לו קביעות עתים ללימוד הן בנגלה דתורה והן בפנימיות התורה שבדורנו נתגלתה בתורת החסידות, וכמבואר ההכרח בהאמור בכ"מ ומובן, ומכמה טעמים.
