To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav* Tzadok (note 1: Rav* T. Chajkin, of Tel Aviv),

I greet you and bless you,

Through the intermediary of the Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of manifold accomplishments, Rav* Menachem Melov, I have duly received your gift — a manuscript containing Chassidic* discourses of the Alter Rebbe* (note 2: See the preceding letter). I thank you very much for this gift. First of all, it is said that one confers value upon what is precious. How much more so when it concerns the teachings of our masters, whose merit protects us. Of course, if you yourself or one of the members of your family possess a similar manuscript or note, I would be very grateful to you, from the outset, for kindly placing it at my disposal, all the more so since it will thereby benefit the greatest number. It is clear that, should you wish to take it back afterward, your wish will be fulfilled.

I do not have details about the members of your family. Nevertheless, your ancestors were Chassidim* of the Tzemach Tzedek* and even of previous generations. Some of them surely possess manuscripts comparable to this one. I thank you for kindly verifying this. And I am sure that the Chassid*, Rav* M. Melov, will spare you the difficulties of the sending (note 3: By carrying it out himself).

May Hashem grant that, for long days and good years, you will still recall the memories of the past, of the days of light, of what you heard from your fathers and the fathers of your fathers, what each of them received from our masters in his generation. Indeed, the words of the righteous are immutable and they produce their effect. I hope that you will indeed spread Chassidus*, its teachings, its practices, in every place you are able to reach. With my respects and my blessing to give good tidings,

ע"י הרה"ח אי"א נו"נ רב פעלים מו"ה מנחם שי' מלוב, נתקבלה תשורתו, ביכל כת"י מאמרי רבנו הזקן.

ות"ח ת"ח על תשורתו האמורה, שהרי נוסף על הפתגם הכללי מילתא אלבישייהו יקירא עאכו"כ בהנוגע לתורת רבותינו נשיאינו זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

ובודאי באם נמצא ת"י כ' או אצל בני המשפחה, עוד כתבי יד ורשימות מסוג האמור, גודל ת"ח נתונה לראש באם ימציאם לי, ובפרט שנוסף בזה גם תועלת הרבים כמובן, ואם מאיזה טעם שיהי' ירצה ע"מ להחזיר, מובן שיקוים התנאי.

אין ידועים לי עוד מבני משפחתו, אבל כיון שאבותיהם היו מחסידי אדמו"ר הצמח צדק ולמעלה בקדש, נמצאו בטח תחת ידם עוד כתבי יד ע"ד הנ"ל, ות"ח על טרחתו בבירור הדבר, ובטחוני שהרה"ח הר"מ שי' מלוב, יקח ע"ע הטרחה במשלוח וכו'.

ויהי רצון אשר לארך ימים ושנים טובות יוסיף כ' בהעלות זכרונות ימי קדם, ימי האור, במה ששמע מאבותיו ואבות אבותיו, ממה ששמעו הם כאו"א מרבותינו נשיאנו כאו"א בדורו, והרי דברי צדיקים קיימים לעד ופועלים פעולתם, תקותי שבטח יפיץ עניני החסידות תורתה והנהגותי' בכל מקום שידו מגעת.
