To the great Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav* David Shlomo (note 1: Rav* D. Sh. Shapiro, of Milwaukee. See, concerning him, letter no. 3133),

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter of 6 Elul*, in which you speak to me about a manuscript of Chassidic* discourses and you ask me what I think (note 2: Regarding their identification and possible publication). If it is possible, I urge you to make it available to me, at least for a few weeks. Of course, I will return it if such is the condition and if it is not possible to modify it, for perhaps it is feasible to exchange it for the publications of Kehot* editions in the same area. Indeed, it is difficult to identify these discourses solely by their title, for they were sometimes repeated two or three times, with various additions, notes, and parentheses in the body of the text.

The Chassidic* discourse entitled: "Why is it called Yom Kippur*?" and the one that was delivered before Rav* M. Meizlich have already been published on various occasions. You also mention the discourse entitled "The Abundant Waters," which has one hundred and ninety-eight chapters. Its author is the Rebbe Maharash* and it has already been published in the United States. I have asked that the Kehot* catalogue be sent to you. You will also find in it an inventory of the Chassidic* discourses that have been published. I await good tidings from you in this matter, and I conclude with my respects and my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

ואם רק אפשרי, בקשתי כפולה להמציא לידי למשך איזה שבועות עכ"פ, ומובן שאחזירם באם יהי' זה בתור תנאי שאי אפשר לשנותו [ואפשר יש להחליפם בהנדפס והו"ל ע"י קה"ת באותו שטח עצמו].

כי במאמרים כנה"ל קשה לדעת ע"פ התחלת המאמר, זהות שלו, כיון שלפעמים הרי נשנו פעמים ושלש בהוספת כמה ענינים או הערות והגהות בפנים המאמר.

בד"ה למה קורין ליוהכ"פ וכו' וד"ה שאמר לר"מ מייזליש וכו' כבר נדפסו בכ"מ.

במה שמזכיר מאמר בן קצ"ח פרקים, ד"ה מים רבים, הוא לכ"ק אדמו"ר מוהר"ש נ"ע ונדפס מכבר בארצוה"ב.

ובקשתי לשלוח לכת"ר קטלוג של קה"ת, נכללת בו גם רשימת הנדפסים במאמרי חסידות.
