Volume 19 · Letter 46

By the grace of Hashem,

17 Tammuz* 5720,

Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your telegrams, which I duly received. I addressed to you, this day, the following telegram: "I received your telegrams and I await the continuation of your good tidings. Without a doubt, you are observing the prescriptions of the physician, particularly regarding rest, with firm trust in Hashem and with enthusiasm, with my blessing," followed by my signature. As I said, you will not fail to give me good tidings of your state of health, as well as of all that concerns you, in a visible and tangible good, in accordance with the prayer that we formulate and obtain from the One Who is the Master of blessings: "Who is good for us..." My telegram refers to rest, and this must be interpreted in the most literal sense. Usually, it is indeed true rest — physical rest and profound rest from all worries — that proves most decisive and effective in such situations. Certainly, this should be so for each person within all of Israel. Indeed, the Baal Shem Tov* explains that Divine Providence applies down to the smallest detail, and trust in the Creator of the world, Who directs it, enables one to dismiss all worry and proves that it is unwarranted. Furthermore, this is indeed a foundation of our faith. This is self-evident.

You have surely received news from the visitors from the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, who were here during Tishrei*, the seventh month, sated with every good. May Hashem grant that always and every day, each person announce only good — material and spiritual, true good, good for the heavens and good for the creatures, a good that bears fruit. The central idea of all this is the necessity of developing and broadening one's activities. It is in this way that one puts into practice the injunction: "Your wellsprings shall spread to the outside," and very soon, we will witness the fulfillment of the promise according to which: "the master shall come," the king Moshiach*. Indeed, this year is the bicentennial of the Hilloula* of the Baal Shem Tov*, who is the source of these wellsprings. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

P.S.: What has just been said does not exclude concern regarding the Torah* and the mitzvos*. Indeed, the holy Tanya* explains that this concern has particular moments. Moreover, it is said, also regarding these moments: "Joy is implanted in my heart, on the other side." This is self-evident.
