By the grace of Hashem,

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter, in which you describe your state of health and the situation of your family. If you communicate the Jewish names, with that of the mother, I will mention them all near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, in accordance with what you write to me. You ask me how you have come to this point, compared to what you were before arriving in Eretz Yisrael*. In a general manner, our holy Torah* describes Eretz Yisrael* as the "Holy Land," and in the terms of the verse, "the eyes of Hashem are always directed toward it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year." Therefore, when one arrives in the Holy Land, one must strengthen one's commitment to the Torah* and the mitzvos*.

Moreover, when one settles in a country, one must, in order to do so, obtain a visa from its authorities. Then, when one is there, one must adopt the local customs, even if they differ from those one had before. It is therefore all the more so, in far greater proportion, when one arrives in Eretz Yisrael*, which is the palace of the Supreme King, King of kings, the Holy One, blessed be He. Hashem is merciful and magnanimous, He is the Essence of good, He does not demand what exceeds a person's strength, and He creates various opportunities so that one may put His request into practice. If, for various reasons, this has not been so for you until now, one must make the firm resolution to act in this direction, and Hashem will grant His help so that this decision is followed by action. Whatever your situation may have been until now, I therefore have good hope that you will make these good resolutions and strengthen your practice of the Torah* and the mitzvos*. In fact, however good the situation may be in this matter, it is always possible to improve it. In this way, Hashem will put into practice what He writes in His Torah*: "If you walk in My statutes...," He will grant blessing and success in all needs.

From what I have been told, your son is a student at an Orthodox school. I hope, consequently, that you will continue to act in this spirit, that all your children will receive a good education. This will be a good beginning for all that has just been written. And nothing withstands the will. I am enclosing a check, drawn on one of the funds of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. You will add this amount to your own money, which will bring you success in all your needs. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

במה ששואל ,מה זה שנעשה כזה מהפך אצלו ביחס למה שהי׳ לפני

שבא לארץ ישראל.

בכלל ארץ ישראל נקראת בתורתנו הק׳ בשם ארץ הקדושה ,וכפי

שהפסוק אומר ,שעיני ה׳ אלקיך בה מראשית השנה ועד אחרית שנה,

ולכן כשבאים לארץ הקדושה ,נחוץ להוסיף בענינים של תורה ומצות,

ובקל וחומר מכך שכאשר רוצים לבוא למדינה ,זקוקים לויזה מאותה

מדינה ,וכשמגיעים למדינה ,יש להתנהג לפי הנהגת אותה מדינה ,אף שזו

הנהגה שונה ממה שרגילים לפני כן.

כן הוא גם ,ובמידה גדולה בהרבה ,כשנכנסים לארץ ישראל

הנקראת פלטין של מלך מלכי המלכים הקב״ה ,והשם יתברך שהוא

רחום וחנון ועצם הטוב ,אינו דורש יותר מכפי הכחות ,ונותן הזדמנויות

שונות למלא את דרישתו.

אם מפני סיבות מסוימות הדבר לא הי׳ אצלו כך עד היום ,הרי

כאשר מחליטים החלטה תקיפה לעשות זאת ,השם יתברך עוזר לבצע

את ההחלטה ,ולכן הנני מקוה ,שאיך שלא הי׳ עד היום ,יחליט החלטות

טובות להוסיף בענינים של תורה ומצות ]שככל שיהיו טובים בזה ,הרי

תמיד יש מקום להוסיף עוד[ והשם יתברך יקיים את מה שהוא כותב

בתורתו אם בחוקותי תלכו וגו׳ ,ויתן ברכה והצלחה בכל המצטרך.

לפי מה שכותבים לי בנו שי׳ לומד בבי״ס חרדי ,הנני מקוה אפוא

שגם להבא יעשה ברוח זו ,שכל ילדיו יתחנכו כך וזו תהי׳ התחלה טובה

בהאמור לעיל ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.
