To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, ...
Greetings and blessings,
I reply to your letter of 1 Elul, informing me that the directorate of the Yeshivah is asking you to study the laws of shechitah*. You ask me whether you should pursue this path.
In my opinion, it is a good thing. You should perfect yourself in the shechitah of poultry and that of cattle. Obviously, you will learn its halachos, and Hashem will grant you success in your studies.
You surely have a fixed time for the study of the teachings of my father-in-law, the Rebbe — his maamarim*, his sichos*, his letters. It would be good that this study be public, so that one comes to the aid of the other and encourages him.
Obviously, this does not exempt you from the studies to which everyone is bound, in particular the daily ones, common to all — Chumash with Rashi's commentary, Tehillim according to their monthly division, Tanya which has been divided according to a yearly cycle by my father-in-law, the Rebbe.
It is in all these manners that one attaches oneself to our head, my father-in-law, the Rebbe.

במענה על מכתבו מיום א' אלול המודיע אשר הנהלת הישיבה קבעה לו ללמוד הלכות מלאכת השחיטה ושואל אם להמשיך בזה,
לפי דעתי נכון הדבר וישתלם הן בשחיטת עופות הן בשחיטת גסות, ומובן [מ]עצמו בלימוד הלכות שחיטה, ויתן השי"ת שיצליח בלימודו.
בטח יש לו קביעת עתים בתורת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ אשר במאמריו שיחותיו ומכתביו. ומה טוב אם הלימוד הוא בחבורה אשר איש את רעהו יחזק ויעורר.
ומובן אשר אין זה פוטר משאר השיעורים אשר כל אחד ואחד מחוייב בהם.
ובכללם שיעורים השוים לכל נפש בחק יומי והם: חומש עם פרש"י, תהלים כמו שנחלק לימי החודש, תניא כפי שנחלק לימי השנה על ידי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ, אשר כל אלו הם דרכים להתקשרות עם נשיאנו הוא כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ.
