My father-in-law, the Rebbe, in the name of the Alter Rebbe*, author of the Tanya*, often reminded us that we must draw a teaching from the Sidra* of the week (note 1: See, on this subject, letter no. 6537) and apply it to all the events occurring during that week.

Indeed, Parshas* Vayeitzei* delivers many teachings relating to the role of the woman as mistress of the home (note 2: See, on this subject, letter no. 7106), not only of her own household, but also of the entire house of Israel. Indeed, this Sidra* shows us how Yaakov* arrived in a foreign land, experienced difficult moments. Yet despite all this, it was there that he built the entire house of Israel. All his children remained faithful to the tradition of the Patriarchs — Avraham*, Yitzchak*, and Yaakov*. All this was possible because the Jewish Mothers — Rochel*, Leah*, Bilhah*, and Zilpah* — did everything in their power to ensure the integrity of their home and the plenitude of their people.

לעתים קרובות ,שצריך ללמוד מפרשת השבוע על כל המאורעות של

השבוע.

אכן ,פרשת ויצא מלמדת אותנו רבות אודות האחריות של האשה

בתור עקרת הבית ,לא רק של ביתה הפרטי ,אלא גם של כל בית ישראל.

שכן בפרשה זו אנו לומדים כיצד יעקב אבינו בא לארץ זרה ועבר זמנים

קשים ,ומבלי הבט על כל זה ,הקים שם את בית ישראל ,בו כל ילדיו

נשארו נאמנים למסורת האבות ,אברהם ,יצחק ויעקב .וזה התאפשר

הודות לכך שהאמהות היהודיות ,רחל לאה בלהה וזלפה ,עשו כל מה

שהי׳ תלוי בהם להבטיח את שלימות ביתם ועתיד עמם . . .
