I bless you and greet you,

I duly received your letter of 29/11, and at a propitious moment, I will mention your name and that of your son near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, in accordance with the content of your letter. Regarding your son, one must first convince him that he should wager only very small amounts — cents — which will reduce his attraction to this matter and bring him clarity of mind. He will reflect and understand how undesirable this is, by meditating upon it once, then again. This will weaken his habit and, in time, cause it to disappear.

Furthermore, he had the merit of being a student of a Yeshivah* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. And one knows the ruling of our holy Torah*, according to which that which pertains to the domain of holiness — the Torah*, the mitzvos* — is immutable and cannot be lost, must leave a trace that, in time, will condition daily existence. It is you who transmitted this request to me, as well as other matters concerning you. May Hashem therefore grant that you also announce good tidings to me in this regard, with true satisfaction — a Jewish satisfaction from your children and grandchildren.
