By the grace of Hashem,

To the Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rabbi ...,

Greetings and blessings,

I reply to your letter of 20 Menachem Av, in which you inform me of your decision to join, with your wife, the group going to our Holy Land. You say that, if you are offered to teach mathematics, you will not refuse it, and you ask my blessing on this subject.

May Hashem grant that you be a receptacle for the blessings my father-in-law, the Rebbe, extends to you — that your journey go well and that you arrive at your destination. For "Hashem prepares the steps of man and approves his way."

You know the saying [1] of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, which he uttered before someone going to the Holy Land: "You shall make of Eretz Yisrael a Holy Land." No one knows in what manner we are to transform the matter of the world, and our Sages emphasize that a man does not know how he will assure his material sustenance [2]. Their statement applies also to spiritual sustenance.

Nonetheless, the path will be particularly long to transform Eretz Yisrael into a Holy Land by teaching mathematics there. The coming of Moshiach* is very close, and he awaits, in this premessianic period, that one transform the last sparks of holiness found in matter.

With my blessing, for you and your wife, that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year and arrive well where you are going.

במענה על מכתבו מיום כ' מנחם אב המודיע שהוסכם אצלו וזוג' תחי' להצטרף אל הקבוצה הנוסעים לארצנו הקדושה ת"ו, ומוסיף אשר אם תזדמן לו משרת מתמתיקה כמדומה לו שאין צריך לדחות, ומבקש ברכה על זה,

יהי רצון שיהי' כלי לברכות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ ותהי' הנסיעה כשורה ויבואו למחוז חפצם צלחה, ומה' מצעדי גבר כוננו ודרכו יחפץ.

ידוע פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ שאמר לאחד הנוסעים לארצה"ק, ת"ו, זאלסטו מאכן פון ארץ ישראל ארץ הקדושה. אין אתנו יודע בסוד הבירורים וידוע מרז"ל אין אדם יודע במה משתכר שהכוונה ג"כ לפרנסה רוחנית. אבל לכאורה פארן מאכן פון א"י ארץ קדושה עי"ז שיהי' מורה למתמתיקה דרך ארוכה היא ביותר, ומשיח צדקנו הנה זה עומד אחר כתלינו ומחכה לגמר הבירורים דעקבתא דמשיחא.
