Brooklyn, New York,
To the annual banquet of the women's auxiliary of
Brownsville and East New York, for the benefit of the
Yeshivos* Tomchei Temimim* Lubavitch,
I bless you and greet you,
It is with pleasure that I received the invitation to your annual banquet, which is to take place, with the help of Hashem, this Tuesday, 12 Teves*. No doubt, the leaders and their collaborators are doing everything in their power to ensure the success of this event. I am not only alluding to the preparations for the banquet itself, but also to the attainment of good results, financial and moral. Indeed, the results of an annual function must have repercussions throughout the entire year. Furthermore, and as I have emphasized many times, this year has a particular virtue, since it marks the bicentennial of the Hilloula* of the Baal Shem Tov*, founder of general Chassidus*, and also of the date on which the Alter Rebbe*, founder of Chabad* Chassidus*, became a communal leader of the broadest scope.
It is known that the Baal Shem Tov*, even before revealing himself as such, began his work among Jews and on behalf of Jews by serving as an assistant in a Cheder*, in order to devote himself to the education of small children. Thereafter, he revealed to all — and to this day — the path of Chassidus*, with its warmth and its clarity. His teaching was very broadly expounded and illuminated, with the most profound self-sacrifice, by the Alter Rebbe*. Such is also the content of your mission, as Jewish women and as mothers. You must educate Jewish children on the living, warm, and radiant path of the Torah*, come to the aid of the students of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* so that they themselves follow this path — that of the Baal Shem Tov* and of the Alter Rebbe*. Without a doubt, the merit of this holy accomplishment will protect each of you, with the members of your families, so as to meet with success in all your actions, material and spiritual. With my blessing to give good tidings, regarding all that has been said,
M. Schneerson,
