To Mr. Moshe (note 1: M. M. Machtey, of Brooklyn),

I greet you and bless you,

Through the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of manifold accomplishments, Rav Shalom Menachem Mendel Simpson, I duly received your request for a blessing. At a propitious moment, I will mention your name near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. May Hashem grant that you soon give me good tidings of this. The merit of your action destined to strengthen the Talmud Torah*, which Rav S. M. Simpson directs, will protect you and your wife, so that you obtain the satisfaction of all your needs. Indeed, there are no words to explain the importance of the Torah* study of the children of Israel, which draws their hearts closer to our Father Who is in Heaven. You will deduce from this the value of this merit. Without a doubt, you still make use of your influence to develop the Talmud Torah* and, more broadly, everything concerning the synagogue, so that everything there be based on sacred values.

We heard from my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, that at your age (note 2: See, on this subject, letter no. 5446), it is good to study the Mishnah* by heart. Without a doubt, you surely already know a great number of them — those that appear in the prayer or those that you have studied. You will also read the Psalm corresponding to the number of your years. Indeed, beginning from the Bar Mitzvah*, one begins to recite Psalm 14. Then, each year, one reads the following Psalm, and so on. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

וזכות התעסקותו בביסוס התלמוד תורה, אשר הרב רש"מ שי' סימפסאן מכהן שם בקדש, תעמוד לו ולזוגתו תחי' בהמצטרך להם שהרי תלמוד תורה של ילדי בני ישראל, המקרב לבם לאבינו שבשמים, אין די ערך ואין די באר, ומזה מובן זכות הדבר, ובודאי גם עתה מנצל השפעתו להתפתחות התלמוד תורה ובכלל בעניני בית הכנסת, שיהי' הכל על טהרת הקדש.

שמענו מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אשר בגיל שלו טוב ללמוד משניות בעל פה, והרי בודאי כמה משניות שגורות בעל פה, אם מנוסח התפלה או מלימודו, וכן יאמר הקאפיטל תהלים מתאים לפי שנותיו (היינו שמגיל הבר מצוה מתחילים לומר הקאפיטל י"ד, ובכל שנה שאחר זה אומרים הקאפיטל שאחר זה, וכן הלאה וכו').
