I am responding to your letter, which was undated and which reached me after a long interruption. You describe to me how you currently earn your livelihood.

In general, my view is well known. It is good to settle by choosing a means of earning one's livelihood that does not require deep involvement. This can be clearly deduced from Chassidic* texts according to which: "One earns one's livelihood without taking it to heart." It would therefore be good to reflect and, gradually, to change your means of earning your livelihood, adopting one that will free you from this worry. I have good hope that by meditating and searching, you will eventually find it. May Hashem grant that this search not be too long.

במענה למכתבו - בלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה - לאחרי הפסק ארוך, בו כותב אודות מצב פרנסתו עתה.

בכלל ידועה השקפתי, שכדאית השתדלות להסתדר בענין פרנסה שאין בה דאגה יתירה, וכמובן באר היטב מהמבואר בדא"ח בהענין שפרנסה צ"ל בלא לב ולב. לכן כדאי להתבונן ולהשתדל לשנות פרנסתו לאט לאט לענינים שלא תהי' בהם דאגה האמורה, ותקותי שבהתבוננות ובחיפוש, הנה סו"ס ימצא את זה, והשי"ת יצליחו שיהי' בלי חיפוש יתר...
