To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and

devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Hillel (note 1: Rav H. Medalye, of Leeds. See, regarding him, letters no. 5922 and 7337),

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your express letter, in which you inform me of your state of health. At a propitious moment, I will mention your name near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. Since you yourself transmitted this request to me, may Hashem grant that you also announce to me good tidings in this matter, as well as in the other domains concerning you, whether communal or personal.

I duly received the books Halichos Olam Katan (note 2: The Ways of the Small World) and Shaar Taharah (note 3: The Gate of Purity), which you published, and I thank you for them. In the future, you should give priority to the Laws of common usage, for which no compendium of the statements of the most recent Sages* has been established. I am alluding, for example, to the Sefer Meir Einei HaSofrim (note 4: That Which Illuminates the Eyes of the Scholars). The merit of the multitude will come to your aid. With my respects and my blessing to give good tidings,
