I greet you and bless you,

I no longer remember the count (note 2: Of correspondences) — who was supposed to write to whom? In any case, I have not had news from you for a very long time. In the meantime, the days of Kislev*, month of miracles and liberation, have come and gone, in particular the luminous day of 19 Kislev* (note 3: Date of the liberation of the Alter Rebbe* from the Czarist prisons), immediately followed by Chanukah*, when it is a matter of adding light from the moment of sunset, "at the door of one's house, toward the outside." The meaning and the profound content of all this is the necessity of not consulting accounts, for, as my father-in-law, the Rebbe, says, when two Jews meet, or write to one another, there is reason to hope that good will result from it for themselves and for others.

It is a gratifying fact to observe, in various circles, an awakening in this year of remembrance, on the occasion of the bicentennial of the Hilloula* of the Baal Shem Tov*. No doubt you are doing everything in your power to disseminate the wellsprings (note 4: Of Chassidus*) and, as I said, to do so in an ever-increasing manner, ever more luminous. I would like to receive good tidings from you in this matter. Indeed, the more details you give me, the better. Of course, I am alluding, first and foremost, to your students, to those who receive your influence, in the various circles where it reaches. I hope that they are progressing not only in the inner dimension, but also outwardly (note 5: In their outward appearance), as the Mishnah* states, and even in their concrete actions. Indeed, our Sages* say: "Do not reject anything," especially since, as you write, you have observed concrete elements that have had a positive evolution. You also wrote to me about the brochures published by the young people of the Chabad* association. To my knowledge, they are still at the printers. When they appear, they will of course be sent to you.

איני זוכר החשבון מי חייב מכתב למי, אבל בכל אופן כיון שזמן רב לא שמעתי ממנו ובינתים הגיעו ועברו ימי חודש כסלו, חודש הנסים והגאולה, ובפרט יום הבהיר י"ט כסלו וממנו תיכף לימי חנוכה, שענינם להוסיף אור משתשקע החמה, על פתח ביתו מבחוץ, והמובן ומכוון בפנימיות הענינים שבזה, אין להסתכל על חשבונות, וכפתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, שכשני יהודים נפגשים - והוא הדין מתכתבים - יש לקוות שתצא מזה תועלת גם להם וגם לאחרים.

עובדא משמחת היא שבכמה חוגים ניכרת התעוררות בקשר עם שנת זכרון זו למלאות מאתים שנה להסתלקות-הילולא של הבעל שם טוב. ובטח עושה כ' כל התלוי בו להפצת המעינות, וכנ"ל, שצריך להיות באופן דמוסיף והולך מוסיף ואור, וינעם לי לקבל ממנו בשורות טובות בזה, וכל המפרט בכגון דא הרי זה משובח. וכמובן שלראש וראשונה כוונתי לתלמידיו ומושפעיו בחוגים השונים שהשפעתו מגעת שם, שתקותי שמתקדמים לא רק בפנימיות אלא גם בחיצוניות, וכדבר משנה, עד מעשה בפועל, והרי אמרו חכמינו ז"ל אל תהי מפליג לכל דבר, ובפרט שלפי כתבו ראה כבר ענינים שבפועל שנשתנו לטוב...

מה שכתב על דבר קונטרסים שיצאו לאור על ידי צעירי אגודת חב"ד כאן, כפי הידוע לי עדיין נמצאים בדפוס, וכשיצא לפועל בודאי שישלחו לו.
