To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and carries out a holy mission, the Rav Moshe Aryeh Leib (note 1: Rav M. A. L. Shapiro, of Yerushalayim*. See, regarding him, letter no. 6748),

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter of 24 Teves*, date of the Hilloula* of the Alter Rebbe*, in which you speak to me of a positive evolution of the Torah* commentaries written by the students (note 2: Of the Yeshivah*. See, on this subject, letter no. 7162), may Hashem grant them long life. May Hashem grant that this evolution develop, grow, advance, and bring light in all the domains of our Torah*, Torah* of truth, of the true truth, excluding the distorted law — that which has not had the merit of redeeming the cunning of the serpent, which therefore lacks the fear of Hashem, or which places understanding before it. Indeed, this fear must be complete, just as Yerushalayim* (note 3: In Hebrew, Yerushalayim* can be decomposed into Yirah Shalem, complete fear), and it must precede understanding.

The solution is therefore to interrogate the witnesses scrupulously, as the Tosafos* state in Tractate Megillah* 15b, as it is said: "I will take them as witnesses." On this subject, you will consult, in particular, Tractate Taanis* 11a, the Likkutei Torah* on Parshas* Pekudei, beginning at page 4b, and the Biurei HaZohar* on Parshas* Shoftim. It is quite evident that in such a case, one issues an opinion that is retained by the Halachah*, for one reveals the truth of Hashem in the world that: "In the beginning, Elokim created." It is regarding this that the prophet says: "Hashem Elokim is Truth," as the Rambam* specifies in his Laws of the Foundations of the Torah*, chapter 1, paragraph 4, regarding the expression: "The true truth." You will consult this text. With my blessing to give good tidings,

ויהי רצון שהזזה זו תצמח ותגדל הלוך והוסיף הלוך ואור בכל עניני תורתנו תורת אמת, אמת לאמיתו, לאפוקי דין מרומה [היינו דלא זכה ובירר ערמת הנחש, שבמילא חסר ביראתו, או עכ"פ בקודמת לחכמתו - שצ"ל בשלימות - ירושלים וקודמת דוקא], והעצה לזה לחקור העדים בטוב (תוס' מגילה טו, ב) ע"פ מ"ש ואעידה בם, עיין תענית יא, א. לקו"ת פקודי ד, ע"ב ואילך. ביאורי הזהר שופטים ועוד. וק"ל, ואז הרי הלכה כמותם, שהרי ממשיכים ואמת ה' - לעולם שבראשית ברא אלקים וגו', והוא שהנביא אומר וה' אלקים אמת, וכמרומז ברמב"ם הלכות יסוה"ת פרק א' ד' מאמת לאמיתו, עיי"ש.

ויהי רצון בהתקרבנו ליום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר מנהל ומיסד ישיבת תו"א, שיבוא זה בפו"מ וכנ"ל - באמת לאמיתו.
