To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav S. Y. Zevin [1],

Greetings and blessings,

I have received your letter of Thursday 27 Menachem Av, with the request [2] concerning funds needed to carry out a wedding. I immediately contacted the Chassid who fears Hashem, Mr. M. Bistritzki [3]. According to him, there has been an error in this matter, for he has never had dealings with Polish people. Nonetheless, he has heard of Rav B. T. K., even thinks he saw him, once or twice, in Belgium. He therefore offered thirty-six dollars. The check is in my possession.

Not knowing the details of this matter, I have not yet sent this check for cashing. Will you kindly tell me whether I should send you this money, and if so, in what manner — or whether I should restore it to the donor [4].

It was unnecessary for you to apologize for formulating this request to me. Be assured, once and for all, that I rejoice in rendering service to anyone, whoever he may be, especially since, Hashem be thanked, I was easily able to do what you asked of me.

You will find enclosed the booklet of 18 Elul, which has just appeared, to which I attach a copy of the letter that accompanies it.

Wishing you to be inscribed and sealed for a good year, which includes, of course, good health for you and your wife,

מכתבו מיום ה' ז"ך מנ"א עם הבקשה בענין הכנסת כלה קבלתי, ומיד באתי בדברים את הוו"ח אי"א וכו' מר מ. ביסטריצקי, ותשובתו היא כפי הנראה נפל טעות בענין זה, כי לא הי' לו שום משא ומתן עם הפולנים, אבל מכיון ששמע אדות הרבצ"ק וכמדומה לו גם ראהו פעם או פעמים בבלגי', התנדב ב' פעמים ח"י דולר, וההמחאה בידי.

ועתה, מאי ידעי פרטי המצב, לא גביתי ההמחאה עדין, ומטובו להודיעני אם רצונו שאשלח לו הכסף ואם כן, באיזה אופן, או אחזיר ההמחאה לנותנה.

ולחינם התנצל על הטריחו אותי בבקשה זו, ולהוי בטוח איינמאל פאר אלעמאל כי שמח אני בהזדמנות כמו זו לעשות טובה לכל מי שהוא, ובפרט כו' והשי"ת יזכני שאוכל לפעול בנקל בהמבוקש ממני.
