Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7219 — Faith & Bitachon

Volume 19 · Letter 189

By the grace of Hashem,

10 Adar* 5720,

Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

After a long interruption, I duly received your letter of this Tuesday, with what was enclosed therewith. At a propitious moment, your name will be mentioned, once again, near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, in accordance with what you write to me. To respond to your question concerning the wine of the four cups (note 1: Of the Seder* of Pesach*, for one who is ill and must not drink wine), you will consult your physician and he will authorize you to use boiled grape juice. You will add sugar to it, which will of course be kosher for Pesach*, or else you will not, as the case may be. On the other hand, it is entirely out of the question to use orange juice for the four cups of Pesach*.

Regarding the medications you must use, you will ask the physician to give you their composition and you will send it to Dr. Seligsohn (note 2: Of Brooklyn, who was himself the physician of the Rebbe), at the address below. I hope he will find a way to ensure they are kosher for Pesach*. The sooner you do so, the easier it will be to respond to you. With my blessing for a joyous Purim*, in good health,

For the Rebbe Shlita*,

the secretary,
