To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Yehudah (note 1: Rav Y. Shmotkin, of Tel Aviv. See, regarding him, letter no. 7201),

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of 11 Adar*, as well as to the request for blessing that reached me on the day of Purim*. I received a blessing (note 2: Expressed in the letter of Rav Shmotkin) and I will therefore give you one as well, which will be fulfilled in accordance with the terms of the verse: "These days are commemorated and relived, in each generation," which means, as is known, that if they are commemorated in the proper manner, they take effect once more. There will therefore be "light, joy, gladness, and honor," according to the interpretation of our Sages*, but also in the literal sense. With my blessing to give good tidings, in material abundance,

You make allusion to a Bar Mitzvah* celebration that is to take place during the festival of Pesach*. Now, the Zohar Chadash*, Bereishis*, emphasizes the great importance of this day. Festivities are therefore necessary on the very day. Of course, another celebration may take place on the following days, at the time and in the manner that are appropriate, provided that words of Torah* and Chassidus* are spoken. You also speak to me of the Shulchan Aruch* of the Alter Rebbe* (note 3: Concerning the possibility of obtaining a copy). The printing has been completed here and it will no doubt be available before Pesach*. It contains many additions. The Sefer 5629 (note 4: 1869, a collection of Chassidic* discourses of the Rebbe Maharash*) has been sent to you, in accordance with your request.

שיהי' אורה ושמחה וששון ויקר, כדרשת רז"ל וגם כפשוטו.

במש"כ ע"ד חגיגת בר מצוה שחלה בחה"פ - ע"פ מש"כ בז"ח בראשית גודל השמחה ביום זה - מובן שצ"ל איזו מסיבה של שמחה ביום זה עצמו. ומובן שיכול לערוך עוד מסיבה בימים שלאח"ז בזמן ואופן המתאים ובלבד שישמיעו בה ד"ת וחסידות.
