I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of 16 Adar*, in which you share with me the controversy that opposed you to a certain person. It is clear that distance between two Jews is painful, even though your emotion is quite understandable, following the curious remarks that were made. It seems, however, that this man is accustomed to this, by the environment in which he moves. Now, Tanya* says that: "Habit becomes nature," or, in any case, a second nature. But, in the end, as you write, he presented his apologies to you and he now desires to draw closer to you. One must therefore adopt an attitude that, in time, will not only restore the situation that prevailed before the dispute, but, moreover, allow an addition to be made, as Iggeres HaTeshuvah* explains, at the end of chapter 9.

How is one to achieve this? Should one interrupt the relationship or intervene in another manner? Regarding this, you will take counsel with the Chassidim* who know this person and who will be able to determine the most effective intervention. May Hashem, Who bestows His Providence upon each one, grant them success in this, especially since we are in the month of Adar*, when: "For the Jews, there was light, joy, gladness, and honor." And, the explanations that our Sages* give regarding this are known. With my blessing of success and for giving good tidings,

במענה למכתבו מט"ז אדר, בו כותב אודות השקו"ט שהי' לו עם... שי'.

והנה מובן שמצער ריחוק בין ישראל לחבירו, אף שמאידך גיסא מובנת ההתרגשות שלו לאחר שהנ"ל דבר דברים מוזרים. אבל כנראה שהנ"ל הורגל בסביבה וכו', וכתוב בתניא שהרגל נעשה טבע (שני עכ"פ). אבל כיון שסו"ס ככתבו הרי בקש מחילה ורוצה להתקרב ותיכף על אתר, צריכה להיות ההתנהגות באופן שלא רק שסו"ס יבוא לזה שיהי' כמו שהי' לפני השקו"ט, אלא שעוד בהוספה ע"ד המבואר באגרת התשובה סוף פרק ט'. ובאיזה אופן לבוא לידי כך, אם ע"י הפסק הקישור לזמן או באופן אחר, בזה צריך להתייעץ עם אנ"ש המכירים הנ"ל ויכולים לשער באיזה דרך יפעלו יותר.

והשי"ת המשגיח על כאו"א בהשגחה פרטית יצליחם בזה, ובפרט שנמצאים אנו בחדש אדר אשר ליהודים היתה אורה ושמחה וששון ויקר וכידוע דרז"ל בזה.
