To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Chaim (note 1: Rav Ch. Binyamini, of Massuos Yitzchak) HaLevi*,

I greet you and bless you,

I received, with pleasure, your letter from the eve of Pesach*, the time of our freedom. You share with me the success of your activities, particularly in the domain of education based on sacred values, even though deficiencies still manifest in various areas. I trust that the success achieved until now will awaken in you additional forces, deep and essential, to multiply your efforts in this matter. Indeed, one can reason as follows: our Sages* say that "all beginnings are difficult," but despite this, the effort of the beginning (note 2: Of the first accomplishments) enabled you to know the success that Hashem granted you. How much more so, then, in the present situation. Of course, it is particularly painful to note that certain circles importune you, as you write, but who could formulate an authoritative opinion on the way this material world is directed — defined as the world of the forces of evil, according to the expression of Tanya*, in chapters 6 and 33, as well as other texts?

Indeed, we observe the wonders of Him Who possesses perfection, and it is precisely in this world that the Torah* was given, precisely here below that the Holy One, blessed be He, wished that a dwelling be built for Him, among the lower creatures. You will consult, in this regard, chapter 36 of Tanya*. Nevertheless, it belongs to the person, whose soul is "a veritable part of the Divinity above," who was created in the image and likeness of Hashem, to prepare and adorn this dwelling. This is self-evident. May Hashem grant that you yourself proceed in this manner, in all the activities conducted to disseminate Judaism and its Mitzvos*, being truly liberated from all that constitutes an obstacle to the service of Hashem in joy and enthusiasm. With my blessing to give good tidings, as well as for a kosher and joyous Pesach* festival,

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מערב חג הפסח זמן חירותנו, בו כותב אודות הצלחת הפעולות, וביחוד בשטח החינוך על טהרת הקדש אף שעדיין חסר כו"כ, ותקותי חזקה שההצלחה דעד עתה תעורר בו כחות נוספים וכחות פנימיים ועצמיים להשתדל בהענינים כהנה וכהנה, ומכש"כ וק"ו, ומה בהשתדלות בהתחלת הדבר שאמרו חז"ל כל התחלות קשות, הצליחו השי"ת במצב ההוה עאכו"כ, אף שמובן שמצער הדבר ביותר מה שישנם גורמים שמפריעים וכו' ככתבו, אבל אין אתנו יודע עד מה בטעם הנהגת עולמנו זה הגשמי, שנקרא עולם הקליפות וכו', וכמ"ש בתניא פרק ו' ול"ג ובכ"מ, והרי רואים נפלאות תמים דעים, אשר דוקא בעוה"ז ניתנה התורה ודוקא בעולם זה נתאוה הקב"ה להיות לו ית' דירה בתחתונים, עיין שם בתניא פרק ל"ו, אלא שעל האדם שנשמתו היא חלק אלקה ממעל ונברא בצלמו ודמותו, להכין הדירה ולשפרה וק"ל.

ויהי רצון שיעשה בהאמור בתוככי כללות פעולות הפצת היהדות ומצותי' מתוך חירות אמיתית מכל ענינים המבלבלים לעבודת השם יתברך מתוך שמחה וטוב לבב.
