By the grace of Hashem,

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of 29 Adar*, which I have just received. In it, you briefly describe your family situation and the way you currently earn your livelihood. Of course, there is absolutely no reason to think that a decree has been issued against a Jew according to which he would have to earn his livelihood precisely by going against the teachings of our Torah*, Torah* of life. How much more so is this the case for one who finds himself in our Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, of which it is said: "The eyes of Hashem are turned toward it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year." Nevertheless, who knows? For a reason known only to the Creator of the world, Who directs it, a Jewish man or woman may sometimes be confronted with a trial. If they firmly decide to overcome it, the Holy One, blessed be He, comes to their aid, as various texts of our Sages* explain. Surely, in your case, the difficulties are far less than in another place. According to your address, you reside in Bnei Brak, a city that is well known for the way the holy Shabbos* is observed there, or more generally, the Torah* and Mitzvos*.

It is said that "salvation comes through many counselors," and you will therefore take counsel with your friends, after having explained the situation to them — everything that has transpired until now. Thus, Hashem will suggest to them the right idea, which they will convey to you, especially since we have just experienced the time of our freedom — a freedom from all that constitutes an obstacle to the service of Hashem. Moreover, all of this is evidence of a lack of trust in Hashem. It would therefore be good to have your Tefillin* checked, as well as the Mezuzos* of your home, to ensure their validity in accordance with Halachah*. Each weekday, before the morning prayer, you will set aside a few coins for Tzedakah*. May Hashem grant that you strengthen your trust in Hashem, Who grants His Providence* to each and every one. Your good decision in this matter will elicit the blessing of Hashem in all your needs. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

במענה למכתבו מכ"ט אדר, שנתקבל זה עתה, בו כותב ראשי פרקים ממצב המשפחתי ואופן פרנסתו עתה.

ומובן וגם פשוט שאין כל מקום כלל לומר כאילו גזירה ח"ו על איש מבני ישראל, שתהי' פרנסתו דוקא באופן היפך מהוראות תורתנו תורת חיים, ועל אחת כמה וכמה כשהמדובר נמצא בארץ הקדושה, תבנה ותכונן, אשר עלי' נאמר, עיני ה' אלקיך בה מראשית השנה ועד אחרית שנה, אלא שמטעם הידוע לבורא עולם ומנהיגו, אין אתנו יודע עד מה, הרי לאיש ואשה הישראלים לפעמים ממציאים להם נסיון, וכשמחליטים בתוקף לעמוד בנסיון, הרי הקב"ה עוזרו, כמבואר בדברי רז"ל בכ"מ, ובטח בהנוגע אליו, הקישוים מעטים מאשר במקום אחר, כיון שכפי הכתבת דר הוא בבני ברק, הידועה ומפורסמת בשמירת השבת קדש אשר בה, ובעניני תומ"צ בכלל, וכיון שנאמר ותשועה ברוב יועץ, הנה עליו להתייעץ עם ידידיו לאחרי שיפרט להם המצב, ואשר עבר עליו עד עתה, והשי"ת יתן להם הרעיון הנכון איך לייעצו, ובפרט שבאים הננו מזמן חירותינו, שזהו חירות מכל ענינים המבלבלים מעבודת השי"ת.

כיון שהנ"ל מורה גם על חסרון בבטחון וכו', מהנכון אשר יבדקו את התפילין שלו וכן את המזוזות בדירתו שתהיינה כולן כשרות כדין, ובכל יום חול קודם תפלת הבקר יפריש פרוטות אחדות לצדקה.

ויהי רצון שיתחזק בבטחונו בהשי"ת המשגיח על כאו"א בהשגחה פרטית, והחלטתו לטובה בכל הנ"ל תמשיך ברכת השי"ת בהמצטרך.
