To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and assumes a sacred mission, the Rav Meir Chaim (note 1: Rav M. Ch. Chaykin, of Montreal),

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter, in which you tell me of the Bar Mitzvah* of your son Shalom Dov Ber, whom Hashem will grant long days and good years. In general terms, you know my opinion according to which, on the day of the Bar Mitzvah*, it is appropriate to organize a joyous celebration, which will, of course, be linked to "the light which is the Torah*" — meaning that the Bar Mitzvah* boy will deliver a Chassidic* discourse, or else one of those present may do so as well, as the great joy that characterizes this day permits one to establish, according to the explanation of the Zohar Chadash*, in Parshas* Bereishis*.

You will understand my astonishment upon noting that you say nothing to me of the dissemination of the wellsprings (note 2: Of Chassidus*). May Hashem grant that this lack is not in the action (note 3: But only in the manner of reporting it). As you request, the present letter is sent to you out of turn. With my blessing to give good tidings and for good health,

במענה למכתבו, בו כותב בהנוגע לחגיגת הבר מצוה של בנו שלום דובער שליט"א.

ובכלל ידוע דעתי, שביום הבר מצוה צריך לעשות ענין של שמחה (כמובן הקשורה בענין של אורה זו תורה, ז.א. שהבר מצוה יחזור דא"ח וכו' וגם מבין הנאספים), וכמובן מגודל השמחה דיום זה כמבואר בזהר חדש פ' בראשית...

מובנת הפליאה שאין מזכיר מענין הישיבה וכן מהפצת המעינות, ויהי רצון שלא יחסר בפעולה וכו'.

כבקשתו נשלח המענה מבלי לחכות על התור.
