To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Shlomo Zalman (note 1: Rav Sh. Z. Shragai. See, regarding him, letter no. 6785),

I greet you and bless you,

On the occasion of the festival of Shavuos*, time of the giving of our Torah*, which approaches, for us and for all Israel, for good, I address to you herewith my blessing, formulated according to the words of the master, my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, that you receive the Torah* with joy and in a profound manner. With my respects, my blessing on the occasion of the festival, and to give good tidings,

I received, in its time, your letter that followed our discussion regarding the second Kfar Chabad*. My response was delayed because, from one day to the next, I was awaiting additional information. Please excuse me for this. The information I am awaiting concerns the preparations and the organization of the undertaking by persons capable of carrying it out. When I obtain it, I will write to you. In the meantime, I thank you once again for your promise to grant your assistance, to the fullest extent possible. In this regard, when Mr. Avraham Herzfeld was here, I discussed this subject with him. Overall, he received it in a positive manner and promised his help, if needed. How much more so is this the case regarding our friend, Mr. Shazar.

I seize this opportunity to add that I saw in the press that you participated in a gathering organized on the occasion of the two-hundredth Hilloula* of the Baal Shem Tov*. I hope that one of its consequences was the total rejection of the most dreadful error (note 2: See, on this subject, letter no. 7052), according to which Chassidus* and more precisely the teaching of the Baal Shem Tov* would have a lenient attitude regarding the concrete practice of Mitzvos*, which Heaven forbid. Does one need, for this, a more convincing proof than the following fact: when one affirms that such a man is a Chassid*, whoever hears it immediately thinks that this is presumably someone who wears two pairs of Tefillin* (note 3: Each morning, those of Rashi* and those of Rabbeinu Tam*), who has Tzitzis* whose threads are wound eight times (note 4: Each thread itself being woven with eight threads), and who extends his prayer (note 5: In order to arouse his fervor therein). This "accusation," despite its absurd character, has claimed a very great number of victims. I enclose a copy of my letter dealing with current matters (note 6: This is letter no. 7327). I hope it will interest you.

בעתו קבלתי מכתבו בהמשך לשיחתנו ע"ד כפר חב"ד שני, ונתעכב המענה שלי כי מיום ליום חכיתי לידיעות נוספות, ואתו רוב הסליחה. והידיעות שחכיתי עליהן הן בנוגע ההכנות וסידור העבודה על ידי אנשים המתאימים לכך. וכשאקבלם אכתוב לכת"ר ובינתים ת"ח עוה"פ בעד הבטחתו לעזור מצדו ככל האפשר.

אגב, כשהי' כאן מר אברהם שי' הרצפלד, דברתי אתו בענין זה ובדרך כלל הביע אהדה לענין והבטיח עזרתו אם יהי' צורך בה. ומכש"כ וק"ו בהנוגע לידידנו מר שזר שי'.

בהזדמנות זו רצוני להוסיף שראיתי בעתונות שכ' ישתתף בכינוס שיתקיים בקשר עם הילולא המאתים של הבעש"ט ז"ל. תקותי שאחת התוצאות מהכינוס תהי' לבטל מעקרא הטעות הכי מבהיל כאילו תורת החסידות, ובפרט תורת הבעש"ט, הקילה ח"ו בקיום המצוות בפועל, והאם דרושה הוכחה גדולה מזו שכשמזכירים שפלוני חסיד הוא הרי מיד עולה על דעתו של השומע שכיון שכך מן הסתם פלוני מניח ב' זוגות תפלין, לובש ציצית כפולות שמונה, מאריך בתפלתו וכדומה. ולמרות האבסורדיות שב"האשמה" הנ"ל, רבים חללים הפילה.
