I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of 17 Tammuz*, which will soon be transformed into gladness and joy. You allude to your son and to the manner in which he will establish himself in the future. During our discussion, although it was brief in time, I clearly expressed my opinion in this matter. For the present, there is no reason to distance him from the home. It is clear that you will not be able to supervise him in another place as you do at home. However, one must not coddle him either. Furthermore, and this is essential, one must strengthen his eagerness. In addition to his studies, you must therefore find him an activity that he will direct — for example, with a group of children younger than he. He will teach them sacred studies, for example, and one can observe that success in this matter brings motivation and autonomy. If his parents supervise all of this while being nearby, it is certain that from time to time, one will be able to strengthen his role so that he progresses.

In all that concerns the good and holiness, the situation, however good it may be, can always be improved, since one is attached to the Holy One, blessed be He, Who is infinite. It is therefore clear that every addition to the Torah* and the Mitzvos* strengthens the blessing of Hashem in all the needs of a person and the members of his family. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

במענה למכתבו מי"ז תמוז, יהפך בקרוב לששון ולשמחה, בהנוגע לבנו... שי' ואופן הסתדרותו בעתיד.

וכמדומה אשר בשיחתנו, אף שהיתה קצרה בכמות הזמן, אמרתי דעתי שלע"ע אין לשלחו מביתם, כיון שבודאי לא תהי' השגחה עליו במקום אחר כמו שאפשר להיות בבית, אבל ביחד עם זה בכדי שלא תהי' ענין של פינוק מיוחד ועוד והוא העיקר לחזק את המרץ שלו, יש להמציא לו נוסף על לימודיו גם ענין של עסקנות שהוא יהי' המנהיג, וכמו קבוצת ילדים צעירים ממנו, שילמוד עמהם בלימודי קדש, וכיו"ב, ורואים במוחש שהצלחה בדבר מוסיפה במרץ ובעצמאות, וכשהוריו שי' ישגיחו על זה בקירוב מקום, בודאי שמזמן לזמן יוכלו להוסיף בתפקידו באופן שיתקדם יותר ויותר.

ומובן שכל הוספה בעניני תורה ומצות, והרי בעניני טוב וקדושה ככל שיהי' המצב גם טוב בזה, תמיד יש מקום להוסיף, כיון שקשורים בהקב"ה שהוא אין סופי, מוסיפה בברכת השי"ת בהמצטרך לאדם ולביתו.
