To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Shmuel (note 1: Rav Sh. Yalow, of Syracuse. See, regarding him, letter no. 7074),

I have just taken note of your article, published in the Pardes*, on the Minchas Elazar*, regarding the blessing of HaMapil* (note 2: "Who causes sleep to fall upon my eyes," concluding the reading of the Shema* Yisrael of bedtime). You will consult, on this matter, the Eshel Avraham* of the Rabbi of Butchatch*, Orach Chaim*, chapters 231 and 239, which develops a lengthy explanation on this subject. It is briefly cited in the Orchos Chaim HeChadash*, chapter 239.

On the same subject, the later Sages*, on Orach Chaim*, chapter 239, in particular the Pri Megadim*, say that this blessing of HaMapil* has a specific time. And one can truly question this assertion, for if this is so, the same assertion must also be made regarding all the morning blessings, and you will consult tractate Berachos* 60b. According to the early Sages*, all of these must be recited together. Now, women also recite the morning blessings (note 3: Even though they are exempt from all time-bound Injunctions). And regarding one of them, the well-known discussion exists concerning: "He did not make me..." (note 4: "A woman." See, on this subject, the compendium Yagdil Torah, published in New York, number 30, chapter 68).

... ז"ע ראיתי מאמר כת"ר בהפרדס דמנח"א לענין ברכת המפיל - ויעוין בזה אשל אברהם (להגה"צ מבוטשאטש) לאו"ח סרל"א ורל"ט שהאריך. הובא בקיצור בארחות חיים החדש סרל"ט.

ובאותו ענין: דהאחרונים לאו"ח סרל"ט (פרמ"ג ועוד) כתבו שברכת המפיל הוי דהזמ"ג - וצע"ג, דא"כ כל ברכות השחר דינן כן (ראה בש"ס ברכות ס, ב ובראשונים דבסדר אחד זא"ז באות כולן). והרי בברכות השחר הקפידו נשים, ואפילו על אחת מהן וכידוע השקו"ט בברכת שלא עשני כו'.
