By the grace of Hashem,

26 Elul* 5720,

bicentennial of the passing of the Baal Shem Tov*,

Brooklyn, New York,

To those who participate in the Chassidic* gathering on the luminous day of 18 Elul*, date of the birth of the two great luminaries, our master the Baal Shem Tov* and our master the Alter Rebbe*,

may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter, referring to this Chassidic* gathering. May Hashem grant that its effect manifest throughout the year, in particular according to the talk of my father-in-law, the Rebbe* (note 1: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "Kuntres 18 Elul 5703, page 42"), according to which 18 Elul* is the day of the moral accounting for the past month of Tishrei* (note 2: The last twelve days of the year allow one to establish the moral accounting of its twelve months).

Now, Tishrei* is itself a month of general import, conditioning the entire year.

At a propitious moment, each of you will be mentioned near the resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, in accordance with what you write to me. With my respects, my blessing to each of you, with the members of your family, to whom Hashem will grant long life, to be inscribed and sealed for a good year,
