To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and assumes a sacred mission, the Rav Chaim Shalom HaLevi (note 1: Rav Ch. Sh. Segal, of Jerusalem. See, regarding him, letter no. 5859),

I greet you and bless you,

After an interruption, I duly received your letter of 23 Marcheshvan*, in which you communicate to me, briefly, good tidings of what is happening, in particular as well as in general. You tell me, first of all, that your grandson has entered the covenant of our father Avraham* (note 2: Was circumcised) and that he has been named Shlomo Yehudah. May Hashem grant him long days and good years. May Hashem grant that his parents educate him to Torah*, to the wedding canopy and to good deeds.

Regarding your anniversary, you have surely observed the customs adopted in recent years on this day. May Hashem grant that you have a year of success, in which you instill in your students the fear and love of Hashem, as well as what results from them, in accordance with the explanation of the holy Tanya*, which defines them as the wings of the Torah* and its Mitzvos* (note 3: Enabling them to ascend toward Hashem). These will therefore be permeated with the light, the vitality and the luminary of the Torah*, that is, its inner dimension, which in our era has been revealed through Chassidus*. And you will accomplish all of this with serenity, joy and enthusiasm. With my blessing for a good Shabbos* and for a good month, namely that of Kislev*, month of deliverance and miracles, as well as to give good tidings of all this,

לאחרי הפסק נתקבל מכתבו מכ"ג מ"ח, בו כותב ר"פ בשו"ט מהנעשה בפרט ובכלל, מתחיל מהכנס בן בנו לבריתו של אברהם אבינו ונקרא שמו בישראל שלמה יהודה שליט"א,

ויהי רצון שהוריו שיחיו יגדלוהו לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים.

ובקשר עם יום ההולדת שלו, ובודאי נהג במנהגי יום הולדת בשנים האחרונות, יהי רצון שתהי' שנת הצלחה והשפעה בתלמידיו יראת שמים ואהבת השם ולהפועל יוצא שבזה - כמבואר בספר תניא קדישא שהם גדפין לתורה ומצותי', חדורים אור וחיות מאור שבתורה היא פנימיות התורה שבדורנו נתגלתה בתורת החסידות. ויעשה זה מתוך מנוחה שמחה וטוב לבב.

בברכת שבתא טבא וחדש טוב חדש כסלו הוא חדש הגאולה והנסים ולבשו"ט בכל האמור.
