By the grace of Hashem,

Rosh Chodesh* Kislev* 5721,

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter of 21 Marcheshvan*. Today is Rosh Chodesh* Kislev*, which carries within it the entirety of this month, defined as that of deliverance and miracles. It is therefore a propitious moment to elicit the blessing of Hashem, so that liberation may manifest in all domains — those of Torah* and Mitzvos*, on an individual level, and those that concern the community — in everything that obstructs and causes confusion.

One will also note that Rosh Chodesh* Kislev* is the last date (note 1: The Rebbe notes at the bottom of the page: "Consult tractate Taanis 6a, tractate Nedarim, chapter 8, Mishnah 5 and the Tosafos Yom Tov at this reference. See also tractate Bava Metzia 106b") at which the rains fall, including in a year in which the rainy season is late. In fact, rain is the heavenly revelation responding to the effort of men, as it is said: "A mist rose from the earth to water" and our Sages* emphasize (note 2: The Rebbe notes at the bottom of the page: "Midrash Bereishis Rabbah, regarding this verse. Yerushalmi, tractate Taanis, at the beginning of the second chapter, and consult also the Likkutei Torah* of the Alter Rebbe*, at the beginning of Parshas* Haazinu"): "It rose from the earth and watered it immediately."

May Hashem grant that all the matters for which one has prayed since the beginning of the year (note 3: Since Rosh Hashanah*) and up to the prayer for rain (note 4: Recited on Shemini Atzeres*), which includes everything within it (note 5: The Rebbe notes at the bottom of the page: "See Midrash Bereishis Rabbah, chapter 13, paragraph 16, which says: 'It irrigated everything: everything was blessed'"), be fulfilled. For this is the last date for all of this to be accomplished concretely, for it to descend here below and to be fully realized, from this Rosh Chodesh*, for blessing, for life and for satiety. With my blessing to give good tidings, in particular as well as in general,

שלום וברכה!

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מיום כ"א מ"ח.

וכיון שנמצאים אנו בראש (וכללות) חדש כסלו, הוא חדש הגאולה והנסים.

הרי זה עת סגולה לעורר ברכת השי"ת אשר יגאלו כל הענינים, עניני התורה והמצות בהנוגע לפרט ובהנוגע לרבים, מדברים המונעים או מבלבלים.

ולהעיר ג"כ אשר ר"ח כסלו הוא זמן האחרון דירידת גשמים ואפילו בשנה מאוחרת,

דהרי ענין הגשמים הוא אתעדל"ע הבאה ע"י אתעדל"ת, וכמש"נ ואד יעלה מן הארץ והשקה גו', וכדרז"ל עלה שבר מן הארץ מיד ותשקה.

ויהי רצון שכל הדברים עליהם התפללו מתחיל מתחלת השנה ועד לתפלת

הגשמים - הכוללת הכל,

הרי לכל המאוחר יבואו כולם בפועל, ירדו למטה ויתקיימו במילואם מתחיל מראש חדש זה, יבואו - לברכה לחיים ולשובע.

בברכה לבשו"ט בפרט ובכלל.
