I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of 3 Kislev*, in which you relate the unfortunate event that occurred in the family of your fiancée (note 1: Who lost her paternal grandmother). Because of this, you wonder whether the wedding should nevertheless be celebrated on the date that had been set. I am very surprised that you are in doubt about what has been clearly established by the Decisors, and you yourself mention in your letter the ruling of a Rav, deciding the Halachah*, according to which the wedding must take place.

One must add to this that, according to Jewish custom, one does not delay the date of a wedding (note 2: See, on this subject, letter no. 7458). Now, a Jewish custom is an integral part of the Torah*, especially in this matter. This is self-evident. At a propitious moment, your names will be mentioned near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, in accordance with your request. I have good hope that not only will you not delay the date of the wedding that you cite in your letter, but furthermore, that you will advance it, to the fullest extent possible and for various reasons. May Hashem grant that it be celebrated at a good and fruitful time. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

במענה למכתבו מג' כסלו, בו כותב ע"ד המאורע ל"ע ול"ע שקרה במשפחת בת גילו תחי', ואשר לכן נתעורר ספק אם לעשות החתונה במועד שנקבע.

לפלא גדול הספק בדבר המפורש בפוסקים ככתבו גם במכתבו זה ע"ד פסק דין רב מורה הוראה בישראל, לעשות החתונה.

ויש עוד להוסיף שמנהג ישראל, שלא לדחות מועד זמן החתונה, והרי מנהגם של ישראל תורה היא, ובפרט בענינים כהנ"ל, וק"ל.

בעת רצון יזכירום על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע כבקשתו.

ותקותי שלא רק שלא יאחרו החתונה מהמועד שמזכיר במכתבו, אלא יקדמוה כפי האפשרי ומכמה טעמים, ויהי רצון שיהי' בשעה טובה ומוצלחת.
