By the grace of Hashem,

17 Kislev* 5721,

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter of 9 Kislev*. We are currently between two liberations — that of the Mitteler Rebbe* (note 1: On 10 Kislev) and that of his father, the Alter Rebbe* (note 2: On 19 Kislev) — which are also ours, since "the body follows the head," especially when it concerns someone who is their Chassid*, that is, a person who studies their teaching and derives from it a lesson that guides him, even in his concrete actions. You will note, on this subject, the specifications of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, according to which there are four types of relationship between a Chassid* and a Rebbe*:

A) that of master and disciple, of the one who gives and the one who receives,

B) attachment, bond, profound unification through the intermediary of Torah* and the service of Hashem,

C) the relationship between a father and a son,

D) that which can be compared to the luminary and the light.

All of this is specified in the talk of Simchas Torah* 5694 (note 3: 1933), paragraph 2, which you will consult.

May Hashem grant that each of us resolve, within all of Israel, to intensify his commitment to Torah* and Mitzvos* in general, to the dissemination of the wellsprings (note 4: Of Chassidus) in particular. This resolution will be followed by a concrete effect, permeated with light and vitality, in joy and enthusiasm. With my blessing, on the occasion of the festival of liberation and to give good tidings of all this,

ובהמצאנו בין גאולה לגאולה, גאולת אדמו"ר האמצעי וגאולת אביו אדמו"ר הזקן, שהן גם גאולתנו, שהרי גופא בתר רישא אזיל, ובפרט באם המדובר בחסיד שלהם - ז.א.

הלומד תורתם ותורתם גם מלמדת (ומדריכה) אותו ועד למעשה שלו,

- ולהעיר מדברי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר אשר ארבעה אופנים בשייכות של רבי וחסיד: א) אופן דרב ותלמיד (משפיע ומקבל). ב) דהתקשרות דביקות והתאחדות גמורה ע"י תורה ועבודה. ג) דאב ובן. ד) מאור ואור (שיחת שמח"ת תרצ"ד ס"ב. עיי"ש) -

יהי רצון שיחליט כל אחד מאתנו, בתוך כלל ישראל, להוסיף בתורה ומצות בכלל ובהפצת המעינות ביחוד,

ותבוא החלטה זו בעשי' בפועל חדורה אור וחיות ומתוך שמחה וטוב לבב.
