By the grace of Hashem,

I bless you and greet you,

I am responding to your letter of 16 Kislev* (note 1: This letter is addressed to a woman). As our Sages* emphasize, the peace that must prevail between a man and his wife is particularly important. You must therefore obtain it, to the fullest extent possible, all the more so since the happiness of your daughter and your grandchildren also depends on it.

Our Torah* teaches us, and Chassidus* in particular emphasizes — especially in the well-known talk (note 2: This is the talk of Simchas Torah* 5691 (1930), found in the Likkutei Dibburim, volume 4, page 706b. See also letter no. 2300) of my father-in-law, the Rebbe* — that man is created with a right eye (note 3: Emanating from the side of kindness) and a left eye (note 4: Emanating from the side of severity). The right eye is that of generosity and it shows a Jew the necessity of observing what is beautiful and good. Our Torah*, Torah* of life, commands that it be so and it is therefore certain that one possesses the strength, the ability to put this Injunction into practice. And nothing withstands the will. מובן ע"פ פסק רבותינו ז"ל דגדול השלום בין איש לאשתו, שעלי' להשתדל בזה ככל האפשרי, ובפרט שהרי זה גם אשרה של בתה והנכדים שי' ונצטוינו בתורתנו ובפרט כמודגש בתורת החסידות וביחוד בשיחת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הידועה, שנוצר האדם בעין ימין ועין שמאל, ועין ימין עין יפה מורה, שעל איש הישראלי צריכה להיות ההבטה באופן לראות בו היפה והטוב וכו'. וכיון שנצטוינו על זה בתורתנו תורת חיים, בודאי שניתן הכח והאפשרית לקיים הציווי, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.
