To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Shalom Yehudah Leib (note 1: Rav S. Y. L. Gansburg, of Bnei Brak. See, regarding him, letter no. 7240),

I greet you and bless you,

After an interruption, I duly received your letter of 26 Kislev*, in which you communicate these greetings to me, even if you do so in the most concise manner possible. You will understand that I am surprised to note how much you summarize what should have been developed, for various reasons. But, in any case, may Hashem grant that these words have the desired effect, as we discussed here, and in conformity with the ruling of the Mishnah* according to which: "the deed is essential" — meaning that the hours of Torah* study will be increased, both of its revealed part and of Chassidus*. Indeed, a word is considered at least as a small action. Likewise, the Mitzvos* will be concretely put into practice, in the best manner. At a propitious moment, all those you cite will be mentioned near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, in accordance with what you write to me.

You ask me when the haircutting (note 2: See, on this subject, letter no. 4788) of your son Levi Yitzchak, may Hashem grant him long days and good years, should take place. It is clear, in my view, that one cannot advance it before he has completed three full years. As for delaying it by three days — in this case, since he was born on 13 Nissan*, this would mean having it near the resting place of Rabbi Shimon ben Yochai* (note 3: On the day of Lag BaOmer*. Until that date, the period of the Omer* will prevent it from taking place). On this matter, you will take counsel with the Chabad* Rabbanim* of the Holy Land, may it be rebuilt and restored.

You speak to me of a lottery for a trip here. No doubt you pose this question on behalf of several other Chassidim* (note 4: Who will also participate in this lottery. Rav Gansburg was asking the Rebbe whether it should be organized). Such an initiative has always depended on how one feels about it, and this is still the case at present. It is therefore not possible for me to express an opinion on this matter. With my blessing to give good tidings of your communal accomplishments and of what concerns you personally,

לאחרי הפסק נתקבל מכתבו מכ"ו כסלו, בו מבשר אף כי בקיצור הכי נמרץ, ממסירות הפ"ש וכו' ואף שמובנת התמי' שבמקום שאמרו לפרט ומכמה טעמים - מקצר כ"כ, הנה בכ"א יהי רצון שיפעלו הדברים פעולה המקווה, וכמו שנדבר כאן ומתאים לפסק המשנה - המעשה הוא העיקר, הוספה בהשעות דלימוד תורה נגלה וחסידות (שהרי דבור חשיב מעשה זוטא עכ"פ), והידור בקיום המצות מעשיות.

בעת רצון יזכירו את כל אלה שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, מתאים לתוכן כתבו.

לשאלתו מתי לעשות התספורת של בנם לוי יצחק שליט"א אף שברור לדעתי שאין להקדים קודם מלאת שלש שנים, בהנוגע לאחר בג' ימים כנדון דידי' שיום הולדת י"ג ניסן, שבאם יאריכו ג' ימים ממילא יודחה ויעשו זה על הציון דרשב"י - יתייעץ בזה עם רבני אנ"ש אשר באה"ק ת"ו.

לכתבו אודות הגרלה לנסיעה לכאן, ובטח שואל זה בשם עוד כמה מאנ"ש.

הנה - מלכתחלה הי' זה ענין שבהרגש, וגם עתה כן הוא. ועל כגון דא אין מקום לחוות דעת.
