To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and assumes a sacred mission (note 1: Teaching Torah* to children), the Rav Yehoshafat (note 2: Rav Y. Alpert, of Jerusalem. See, regarding him, letter no. 5420),

I greet you and bless you,

After an interruption, I duly received your letter of 7 Teves*, in which you envision the organization of a large celebration for the students of the upper classes of Azur (note 3: Near Tel Aviv), on Purim*. You describe the interest this presents. In general, such initiatives are good, but only to the extent that one obtains significant participation on the part of the students. Indeed, on Purim*, as you yourself write, several celebrations will surely be organized. Furthermore, and this is essential, several families undoubtedly organize gatherings in their homes for their relatives.

In fact, it would be good to explore the possibility of organizing such a celebration for the 10th of Shevat*. This year, that day falls on the eve of Shabbos* and you will therefore hold it the preceding evening, that is, on the eve of the Hilula* (note 4: Of the previous Rebbe, the 10th of Shevat*). In this way, all risks will be averted and this celebration will surely have an echo. Indeed, several schools have adopted the habit of coming to visit Kfar Chabad* on that date. Recently, the work of the one whose Hilula* we celebrate, in the regions of Russia, concerning the education of children, has been widely disseminated throughout the Holy Land, may it be rebuilt and restored.

Regarding the expenses that will result, you surely know yourself the state of the treasury of the network (note 5: Of the Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch* schools in the Holy Land). Nevertheless, if all of this is followed by effect and, above all, if there is good participation, as stated, I hope that it will be able to grant you a contribution of one hundred twenty-five to one hundred fifty liros (note 6: Israeli). I am surprised that you make no mention of your activities during the month of Kislev*, in particular toward the students (note 7: The Rebbe employs this term in both the masculine and feminine). They were surely told the account of the liberations and miracles of this month — that is, in order, the 9th (note 8: Hilula* of the Mitteler Rebbe*), the 10th (note 9: Festival of liberation of the Mitteler Rebbe*), the 19th (note 10: Festival of liberation of the Alter Rebbe*), and Chanukah*. With my blessing to give good tidings of your communal accomplishments and your personal concerns,

לאחרי הפסק נתקבל מכתבו מז' טבת, בו כותב הסברא לארגן חגיגה רבתי לתלמידי הכתות הגבוהות דאזור בפורים הבע"ל והתועלת שבזה.

והנה בכלל כל כגון דא נכון הוא, אבל בד"א כשיש להבטיח (באווארענען) השתתפות מתאימה של התלמידים, והרי בימי פורים ככתבו בודאי תהיינה כמה חגיגות, ועוד ועיקר שבטח כמה מהמשפחות עורכים חגיגות בבתים פרטים זבחי משפחה וכו'.

ולכאורה כדאי הי' להתעניין ע"ד האפשרית לארגן האמור ביו"ד שבט הבע"ל, וכיון אשר השנה חל בערב שבת, יהי' זה בערב יום זה, ז.א. ערב יום ההילולא, ואז סרו החששות האמורות, ובטח יהי' גם הד להענין, שהרי הורגלו כמה מבתי ספר לבקר בכפר חב"ד בקשר עם יום האמור, ולאחרונה נתפרסם באה"ק ת"ו בפעולות בעל ההילולא במדינ[ת] רוסיא בהנוגע לחינוך הילדים וכו'.

בהנוגע להוצאות הקשור בהנ"ל, בודאי גם לו ידוע מצב הקופה בהרשת, בכ"ז באם הענין נוגע לפועל, והעיקר שתהי' השתתפות מתאימה כנ"ל תקותי שהקופה תשתתף עד למאה ועשרים וחמשה - ק"ן לירות.

לפלא שאינו מזכיר מפעולותיו בחדש כסלו ובעיקר בהנוגע להתלמידים-ות, שבודאי ביארו לפניהם פרשת הגאולה והנסים דחדש זה (על הסדר) ט' יו"ד י"ט וימי חנוכה.
